RolePlayingMaster help needed!

Bibliophile

First Post
Well, I just downloaded the latest version of the RolePlayingMaster software ( www.roleplayingmaster.com ), and for some reason, it crashes whenever I try to generate a character or monster. Using the Wizard to generate the creature in question, it makes it to the second step just fine (where you input any templates, age, gender, etc...). When I try to move on from that screen, it crashes and opens a debugger. When I close the debugger, it opens an in-program debugging window (i think that's what it is). Upon closing that, it re-opens the microsoft debugger to the same thing (repeat ad naseum, or until I close the program with task manager).

Is there any way to get this to work properly? If it helps, I'm running IE v6, and Windows 2000 Professional Edition.

Fix

You must have missed the update fix by a matter of hours.

There's a one line rules file edit fix (e-mail me at luke_jones@roleplayingmaster.com ), or I highly recommend just getting the update file.

The update (v4.2.8) has some very nice features (see the web page news).

As per the website news, apologies for the inconvenience. The previous version saw some major changes with user options and programmable dice rolling methods. If you hadn't previously selected a dice rolling method (lets say, on the "List grid" window for creating entire encounter groups), then you get the problem you experienced.

(Thanks for the heads-up there Max :) )

Regards,

I'm trying out differnt programs to see what one I like best. I downloaded RPM, and the 3.5. update, but what folder do I extract each of the different files to?

EDIT: I looked and saw what folder to put the files, extracted them all to the DB folder, but now I get an error when I try to run it.

Hey Ken,

Just have another quick look at the instructions just above where you downloaded the 3.5 dataset.

You don't actually unzip files yourself. You use the "Import" facility to import datasets, adventures and other material into RPM. This will correctly merge your RPM add-ins into your program.

Unfortunately, by manually unzipping files over your RPM installation, you've forced yourself into needing to un-install and re-install RPM.

Regards,

Thanks for the rely, but i just found out you have to pay for it to put in the 3.5 files. To import anything, you must pay. So I downloaded a DnD prgram withouth the current rules set and can't try it unless I spend money. Since money is really tight right now, I'm going to have to pass. You might want to mention that people have to pay for the full version to get the current rule set.
