Rolling up a monk, need help

I'm rolling up a monk for a new adventure and would like a little advice. I was looking at the psionics handbook, and found some interesting things. There is a feat for running on the walls and increased jumping. So it got me thinking about what kind of chracter I wanted to make. So i've decided I want to go really over the top but I'm having some problems (as one would expectedwhen trying something like that). So to fully imbrace that idea I'd like some help in pointing out sources. I'd like to make a mix of Crouching Tiger meets Dragonball. Insane martial arts with acrobatics and energy attacks with power boosts. I thought about PSI but I don't know if that is right for me. Any tips?

OA has some prestige classes and ways to get big bonuses (Like +10 or +20) to skills like Jump, Tumble, and Balance. It takes quite a few levels to get there but well worth it.

Blade Dancer, is that the one you're thinking of?

Yes, you can play a PsyWar that way (it's fun!) but be warned you get very few powers...I'd suggest taking the ones that grant you great unarmed attacks (Bite of the Tiger etc) and taking feets for jumping, speed etc...voila!

There's the Weightless Foot PrC from the OA issue of Dragon a year or so ago (WotC no longer has the covers on their website so I can't find the issue number, sorry)

It's a pretty easy class to qualify for (5-7 lvl), but I don't think it gets continuing monk abilities (unarmed attacks & damage etc). It does however get all of the classic CTHD moves like walking on walls, water and flying (at lvl 10).

If your thinking of going the psywar route then check out the prestige classes on the WotC website under the Mind's Eye section - a couple of really good unarmed PrCs there!

Happy hunting:)

i'm only looking at psionics as a way to get closer to my character idea. As I mentioned there are some feats that come close to abilities that I wanted, but i also was looking for some of those DBZ energy blasts! I'm really trying to go over the top.

There's the Henshin Mystic monk in OA, along with the Tattooed Monk... I myself have been wanting to play a similar over the top monk character, maybe not with energy blasts, but like at the extreme of martial arts action.

I'd recommend going halfling monk, for the following reasons:

1) Small size provides a great +4 hide bonus, as well as +1 to Attacks and AC

2) The +2 Dex that halflings get provides a good boost to one of the Monk's 3 important stats (Dex, Str, and Wis). The flipside is the -2 Strength, but that can be overcome.

3) If you can get your hands on a Dex-enhancing magic item (my halfling monk has a pair of Gloves of Dex +3), your Dex can get ridiculously high which is a huge help if you're playing stealth-oriented (which is what mine is)

Plus, I've had a blast RPing a halfling who's also a monk. More than once he's been underestimated by opponents who look at him and think he's a child (that is until he whips out a Flurry of Blows). For maximum fun, I recommend maxing out Hide, Move Silently, Tumble, and Jump, and maybe Climb. With the right feats, you can pull off some very cool CT,HD-esque stuff. For extra flavor, I've even got the Snatch Arrows feat. My DM gives me a bonus to Intimidate checks in battle against opponents whose arrows I've snatched. :D

Well, I would consider Halfing a "suboptimal" choice.
The small size will make it near impossible to you to grapple or trip someone, some of the things a monk can be really good at.

Low Strength combined with a low unarmed damage seems not a good idea.

But on the other hand, if you`re having fun with it, who cares? :)
