Rolls I bit off?

The combat round is a convenient abstraction layer. It is not supposed to be literally interpreted as round based combat. I realize that there are many people who play that way, but there are many people that don't. However annoying that abstraction layer can be at times, it does keep more complexity out of the system. Generally speaking, that complexity is good to avoid. It would slow the game down much more if you try to account for every nuance of every variable within a combat.

How did you miss the polar bear from two feet away? Because it got mad and started trying to maul you. While you backpedaled, trying to avoid a bearslap to the head, you swung your sword. Since you were busy keeping alive, the sword swing was less then effective and you missed doing any appreciable damage. On the plus side, it didn't throw you to the ground and crush your throat.

Said much simpler than I did - yeah, that's what I was getting at, thanks.
