Romantic Fantasy- Blue Rose

So is anyone else really intrigued by the upcoming Blue Rose RPG? I just saw that Green Ronin has a Blue Rose website and I read through it. The Mercedes Lackey inspiration was a huge draw for me and I have had the book on pre-order since the moment that GR announced it and the website has furthered the anticipation.

The game really seems like it will offer a good alternative to DnD, especially as a source for deeper RP. I have queried several of my female friends who are familiar with the inspirational authors, but will not play DnD, and enough have seemed interested for an all female group.

So is anyone else excited about this game?

I'm interested. I've got a campaign that might be close enough to what they have in mind that I could lift some elements for use.

Personally, though, I'm more interested in how the game deals with social interactions -- it seems like a game like that would have to get into social and political interplay on a new level, and I'd like to see what their approach to that is. The actual romance aspect doesn't really appeal to me, since I know that it wouldn't really work terribly well with my group. Not to say that I think it's bad for them to do it -- I think it's a great idea, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the market does with it -- but that probably isn't what I'll be using it for.

Very much so, this is going to be one of the few new insights into fantasy instead of the same ol same old we always get. If this and some of Green Ronin's other announced books turn out as well as I hope they could quickly become one of my favorite publishers.

Incredibly interested. I'm looking forward to the rules for the animal companions, the magic system, and any hints on getting a very political game off of the ground and running.

GR already tops as one of my favorite publishers and I really enjoy the direction they are headed.

Blue Rose really sounds like an attempt to reach out to another core fantasy audience. I really like the amount of support they are putting behind this product.

It also seems like I will be able to tell some different types of stories than with DnD. From what I can tell, the setting is designed for RP plotlines with quick, suspenceful action.

I know that I will definitely run a session of this as soon as I can.

Up until today, calling Blue Rose "Romantic Fantasy" really threw me, possibly the way "Adult Fiction" makes people assume something completely different from the truth. :)

Looks interesting, now that I'm digging into the website a bit. I respect Steve Kenson greatly, and I'm interested in seeing some of his designer pages to see what's different about this game.It would be a gas to find out this is the "d20 Lite" that many people were hoping Castles and Crusades would be!

I'm interested since I'm curious as to how they will implement the MnM ruleset in Blue Rose. I'm not all that crazy about the tone that will be portrayed in the book (not the biggest Lackey fan), but just like D&D can be used for any style of play, I'm sure Blue Rose will be able to do the same thing. Hopefully, it will give me some ideas on how to further implement MnM for even more RPG genres.

For me, Green Ronin already did that quite some time ago. The only question I have about GR products is if they address my specific needs, not if the products are going to turn out as superior products or not.

And quite often they do. I'm interested in this as a d20 Lite as well, as Henry says. I'm actually not much a fan of Mercedes Lackey, or "romantic fantasy" in general, but I could do with a less tactical game, certainly, that had a lot of good politickin' support.

Hey, men need love too!

One of the best treasure a player can find is a lovely SO who loves you. In my personal experience, having the players find and hook up with a SO is a really good way to immerse them into the game further, and they really value their SO.

If you are a DM who hasn't tried this yet, this book may help facilitate you incorporate these elements into your game. It doesn't have to be stereotypical romance book relationship, just having a solid, positive, capable, and admirable person who really likes you and loves you is simply nice to have when the rest of the NPCs in the world are trying to kill you, use you, manipulate you, or just annoy you.

For example, it seems like a good number of my typical guy gamer friends love Red Sonja from the Conan movie. "Who wants to live forever!" I would template that character as a possible love interest that would appeal even to your biggest hack-&-slash gamer.

Just so long as they don't mean 'melodramatic' and 'impossible archetype' when they say romantic...

But it's certainly an intruiging notion. I'll have to look in to it when it comes out. Haven't gotten a 3rd party book for years, after all...
