Roman alternate reality
I'm running a campaign where Pompey manages to second guess Caeser's actions, and eventually Caeser is assassinated because he can't pay his troups just before the assault on the germanic tribes, also, the main characters have managed to persuade Pompey to send his son on an "exchange" with the son of Vercingetorix creating a truce in Gaul under Romano occupation. Pompey has been tipped the wink about an inordinate amount of precious metals in Spain and the players next aim is to take over the library in Alexandria (which of course is crammed with ancient magics). The Greek myths brood under the surface of things, and elemntal and spirit creatures as well as undead crop up, but researching the life and times of 54bc and extending alternative events from a change in history has been fascinating. Pompey will end the triumverate with the death of caeser and will rule Rome with his wife giving the people greater voice through the senate. He has already started building the theatre and the pompey circus maximus has a nice ring to it. instead of dieing in Egypt, Pompey will become very successful. But all will not be plain sailing, and a backlash of empire hungry militants will start an active meanouvre against him.
