Rome: Decline and Fall (Adventure Series)

I'm planning on using a lot of this for my upcoming campaign (although I may tweak some things for my own campaign).

I also really like to see other people's adventure write-ups (makes things easier for when I'm setting up mine). Still looking forward to adventures 3 and 4.

I looked at a lost of maps in academic books as I was developing the campaign. My favorite is probably the The Penguin Atlas of Ancient History, which I used to flesh out the history of the game world.

During play, though, I almost never use maps. The adventures are largely event driven, so I usually just move from one scene to another and gloss over travel.

Also, the PCs haven't actually reached Rome yet. I may dig up a map of the city when they get there. That reminds me that I need to if I can find a map of Massilia (ancient Marseilles) ...

EDIT: Go google. Here is where the next arc of the campaign (A06-A10) is set:

My campaign (245 AD) pre-dates the formal East/West split, so it isn't an issue.

My campaign is also mostly set in the West (Gaul), though it will definitely move to Rome at some point and may visit the East (Egypt) before venturing off into extra-planar adventures at the Epic tier.

Just found this post...

Nice!!! The amount of detail is staggering!

I hope you continue with the rest of the campaign path. I was hoping to run it as well for my group.

Keep up the excellent work!:D

I finished doing the first adventure with the players last week. I am modifying some of the events--
the campaign's primary arc is centered with events around some of the Old Ones from the Far Realms that are seeing an opportunity to meddle with the Earth now that the head of the Gods is no longer as powerful against them. I'm stilling using the main NPCs from the first campaign to cut down on a lot of the world-building work that I won't have time for until sometime mid-late May.

I keep pretending to myself that I will have time to clean up my notes from previous adventures, but with an increase in my work load in my job, I simply don't have the time anymore.

So ... rather than posting nothing at all, as I have for months, I've decided to do a quick pass on the incomplete notes and then post them as is. I figure a partially written adventure is better than no adventure as all.

Here is A04: Our Neighbor the Orc

Roman alternate reality

I'm running a campaign where Pompey manages to second guess Caeser's actions, and eventually Caeser is assassinated because he can't pay his troups just before the assault on the germanic tribes, also, the main characters have managed to persuade Pompey to send his son on an "exchange" with the son of Vercingetorix creating a truce in Gaul under Romano occupation. Pompey has been tipped the wink about an inordinate amount of precious metals in Spain and the players next aim is to take over the library in Alexandria (which of course is crammed with ancient magics). The Greek myths brood under the surface of things, and elemntal and spirit creatures as well as undead crop up, but researching the life and times of 54bc and extending alternative events from a change in history has been fascinating. Pompey will end the triumverate with the death of caeser and will rule Rome with his wife giving the people greater voice through the senate. He has already started building the theatre and the pompey circus maximus has a nice ring to it. instead of dieing in Egypt, Pompey will become very successful. But all will not be plain sailing, and a backlash of empire hungry militants will start an active meanouvre against him.
