Rondori- Version 3.0

Storyteller01

First Post
I've re-tooled my previous entries based on info from all of you. Tell me what you think>>>

Rondori

Requirements:
Dodge, Mobility, Improved Unarmed Combat, Improved Trip, Defensive Throw, Combat Reflexes

The amount of creatures that may safely surround (ie: come within contact of) you is reduced by half. Should a character find themselves surrounded by more creatures than is safe (by accident or deliberate design), he may force excess creatures out of combat.

With this feat, a character may choose a number of creatures within contact to make a Ref save (DC 10 + the character's Dex bonus + the number of surrounding creatures). A successful save means the creature may stay in combat for this round. On a failed save, the creature must take a 5 foot step in any direction the creature chooses, as long as the creature and the character are no longer in contact with each other. This same creature can only take a partial action on its next turn. The number of creaures that may be forced to make this save can be no more than the amount beyond what is concidered safe.

Example: with this feat, a human monk may only be safely surrounded by 4 medium creatures. Should he be surrounded by 6, he may choose two of them to make this ref save.

A character may force the above save every round they are surrounded by more creatures than is safe. Different cretures may be chosen every round.

Allies count against the amount of creatures who may safely surround you.

This feat is does not function if the character is immobilized (ie: hold spells, certain command spells, helpless/unconscious, grappled, etc)

I thought about the size difference between possible opponents, then realized

1) Gnomes, and halflings have mechanics based on the advantage their size gives them. This is just another application of that.

2) Dwarves gains bonuses to AC against giants, presumably because of training to capitalize on the same concepts as rondori.

3) Because the save is partially based on the amount of creatues surrounding you (and the fact that not as many large creatures can surround you to begin with), it would be easier for a size Large or larger creature to make the save.

4) It would just be cool to see two behemoth's tripping over each other trying to catch this iddy-biddy morsle!!

I added that clause to simulate having to recover from having someone thrown in your way (or just thrown ito you). It's also limited to the amount of targets (as far as I can tell, 4 is the limit unless your dealing with Tiny creatures. They would still have the advantage). It's still easy to negate (don't focus so many people on this target. Go one-on-one, and use standstill or similar ability if you have it)

Please let me know if I'm wrong, but I thought it would be a balanced effect, considering the amount of feats required.

*Chuckle* Since I'm about to take my blackbelt test, this particular topic's been on my mind lately. Let me sugest a MUCH simpler mechanic ;).

Benefit: Once per round, if a there are three opponents adjacent to the character and an additional opponents moves adjacent to the character, he may immediately take a 5 ft. bonus step.

You should be able to manuever out of most spots with that.

Morgenstern's idea is simpler, but not nearly as much fun :) Good luck on your shodan test, Morgenstern!

What kind of action is it to use this feat? Move? Free?

Given the prerequisites and the saving throws allowed, I'd say it's actually under-powered, but that's just me. One way to beef it up slightly and simplify the consequences is to say that if the subject fails the save, they must take a move action to move at least five feet away from you. If they don't have a move action left in the current round, they fall prone in their current space.

Al the throws are a free action.

Definitely like the falling prone idea. Thanks!

I thought about that mechanic Morgenstern, but my experience with the technique is different, I guess. I was always to push forward, especially on the 45 degree angle. Always makes the other guy move. Thanks for the tip though!

Good luck on your shodan test Morgenstern!!

So... how about this?

Rondori

A successful save means the creature may stay in combat for this round. On a failed save, the creature must use a move equivalent action to take a 5 foot step in any direction it chooses, as long as it is no longer in contact with your character. If said creature cannot do this, they are considered 'prone'. The number of creatures that may be forced to make this save can be no more than the amount beyond what is considered safe.

I don't mean to nag, but the text still doesn't mention when the save happens (I assume that it's on your turn, but is it at the beginning, end, or at some time of your choosing?) or that using the feat is a free action. :)

I don't recognize Improved Unarmed Combat and Defensive Throw. What source are they from?
