Rot Grubs!!!!

I recall an old Dragon article about ecology of the rot grub, which mentioned something about liches fearing rot grubs because the grubs could devour the lich while it rested. It seemed odd that these worms could damage an undead creature that damages with a touch that required +3 weapons to hurt...

My 1e dungeons included zombies infested with rot grubs - the zombies would then grapple the adventurers . . .
Hokey-smokes!

I wrote that without reading the linked Whizbros page - looks like my old monster trick is about to make the big time!

Actually, the 4e rot grub zombie sounds more like something I came up with for a d20 Modern game, the spiderhusk zombie, which on any slashing damage would fall apart, disgorging a slew of venemous giant spiders.

Great minds think alike?

It's a great idea.

Still, what if there were some rot grubs that had reached maturity and were nesting in said zombie and were looking to lay some eggs on some fresh meat...

There are monsters that do that too. :D The tomb spiders from 3e (MM5 I think?), and I think they are also in Open Grave. BIG GIANT spider that lays its eggs in the webbed husk of its victim, and killing the husk releases the spider swarm inside.
