In theatretical releases FotR and RotK are almost as good IMO. FotR maybe a bit better, so thats what I voted.

Theatretical TTT was a mess, IMO, but made good with the EE, somehow. Yeah, I know, there wasn't that much material (considering it's a long movie in any form), but still the change in overall quality is major.

As for the three extended editions compared .. only time will tell ;)

FotR was such an unexpected, overwhelmingly wonderful surprise. I never thought I could hope that it would be as good as it was. So even with RotK's emotional payoffs (Sam and Frod on Mt. Doom, Aragorn's coronation, the White Ships), FotR will always be the one that I think of when I think of the sheer pleasure this trilogy brought to me.

I voted Fellowship.

But like many folks, I view the trilogy as just one big-ass film. The first leg wasn't the best or even my favorite even though I voted for it. It was the beginning that needed the other movies to be fully realized. Just as with Return of the King needing the other 2, otherwise it looses most of its impact.

So if I had to choose: :)

Fellowship was the most complete with its balance of characterization and action. I guess I view it as an ideal D&D adventure. Good mix of everything that leaves you wanting more.

As much as I enjoyed both TT and RotK with all my favorite parts (I loved seeing Minas Tirith when Gandalf and Pippen ride to it, I want one just like it- only bigger :D ) in that movie (except the Balrog scenes) I voted for FotR because to my that was the overall best movie of the 3 IMO.

I went with the majority on this one. I've been telling everyone for a while that FotR was the best of the movies. I personally enjoyed it because it was truest to the books, but honestly I believe it had far more plot movement than TT and it felt far less "spliced" together than RotK.

I can see why many people voted FotR, but as has been said, it's much easier to set up than to pay off.
RotK was quite simply - the best conclusion to a trilogy of movies ever made.
Therefore, RotK is the best of the 3, because it's the much rarer film.

Oh yeah, RotK is good and from what I've heard, EE will be better than all of the others. That said, I've always liked FotR the best, even in book form.

Then you've missed the point of this year's Oscars. I said it two years ago, last year, and you can see how I did this year with my predictions. If you're choosing a year to give eleven Oscars to a trilogy, you do it in the last year. I find it odd that you're in such denial of the obvious. :)
So you think all the combined Oscars awarded to The Godfather and The Godfather Part II should have instead gone collectively to The Godfather Part III? I'm sorry but I guess I don't agree with you at all. :p

But did anyone know that there would be a third movie when the first two won theirs?
