RPG artist blogs and galleries

I know there are tons of these out there. They're great if you need to snag some illos to inspire a session (and then show those pics off to your players to help set the scene), or for character portraits, or occasionally maps.

Good art motivates me to up my game. I don't just want any old conversation between PCs and NPCs in a building; I want a weary group of travelers resting in the shade of a twisted iron ruin in a rust-colored desert, talking to the mad wizard who destroyed the landscape.

(Illo by Craig Mullins, from WotC's "Time Spiral" set for Magic)

I don't just want giants who swing clubs at PCs on an open field; I want a treacherous arctic ascent where titans throw mountaintops down at the party.

(Sadly, Wayne Reynolds appears not to have a blog, just a gallery.)

Also, when you're writing and publishing, it's pretty cool to see the artists talk about their work, like here:

Great looking pieces! Hopefully the start of a fun thread!

Deviant Art can be a great resource for gaining inspiration. Lots of cool stuff there.

National Geographics photo site can be pretty cool at times too. Some pictures of things that are on our very own planet can provide some great environmental inspiration.

I greatly enjoy pictures that also tell (or inspire) a story.

Google has actually been my friend for finding fascinating artwork, as has Deviant Art. The Spectrum Art books (basically, awards for best art of the year) have been some of my favorite off-line resources for inspiring art.

Here's a few...

Shadowcore (quite a few artists represented here, most of which will be familiar to anyone who has paged through a Paizo or WOTC product over the last year or two).

Shadowcore

And the Creature Spot website (admittedly a fairly narrow focus, but the individual blogs/websites for almost all the contributers is on the right hand side so you could spend hours tracking down stuff by the artists once you find some illustrations you like).
