This is for Star Frontiers fans please (no flame war comparing it to other games please).

What did you like about Star Frontiers.

And if fairness, what did you not like about it?

Be as specific as possible please.

I liked the alien races; they weren't the standard "blue human with a funny face" type aliens. Dralasites rocked! I also liked the heroic feel of the game (the game felt more personal than Traveller).

I didn't particularly care for some of the cliches, like "monolithic evil alien threat that cannot be negotiated with." It got repetitive. "Sathar, again!"

I liked the alien PC races.
I liked the volturnus series of adventures.

I did not like the skill system.
I did not like that Knight Hawks ship construction system could never build as good a ship as the stock ships!
I did not like that Knight Hawks professions were so damned much more expensive than the basic set professions.
I did not like that the SF universe seemed so small.

Of course, I can't say anything about zebulons or any of the later books, as my interest died by then and I had moved on to other things.

I liked the adventure where the PCs are supposed to play a bizarre cross of rugby and polo with a group of aliens.

The reason I like this - I loved the idea that the PCs have a "secret weapon"; the forward pass. The aliens never conceived of it. Novel way to win a contest.

It was quite a nice little game! I loved the fact that it was almost beer and pretzels easy to learn, but could quite easily support a campaign if you so chose.
The Sathar, however, were unfortunate; quite repetative and not very deep.

The alien races were great.
I know others felt the Sathar were weak, but I liked them. I'm disappointed that they weren't included in d20 Future.
I liked the fact that the PC's were supposed to be agents of Star Law, but that there was plenty of room for other campaign types.
I loved the gadgets and weapons too. Vibro blades and needleguns were great!

The Sathar were OK for me. Long ago, there was a section of Dragon Magazine called Aries that had the occasional SF article, like a few new races, Star Law careers, and spaceships.

Overall, I enjoyed the game a lot, and I actually liked the skill/xp/ability score advancement system they used. With the sparse XP that were given out, you had to make hard choices on whether to advance your skills, or advance your ability scores, or even advanced classes when you factored in the Knight Hawks game (spaceship skills).
