I think continue and conclude indicate ongoing effects: first text happens when powers hits, continue happens on following round, conclude happens on round after that.

For a fun conclusion, check the Bralani's Curse of Autumn: after 24 hours, target dies.

Some interesting bits regarding Resistance; such as the Vrock's variable resistance (2/encounter), and the Grick's Resist Damage Threshold (wonder what that actually means?)
Theory about the Grick's ability: Instead of subtracting 15 from any damage dealt, it takes full damage from hits dealing above 15 HP and no damage from other hits.

I dunno, it's all I could think of. :p

That would make sense. But then the Vizier doesn't have to do anything to pull his victim closer to being dominated. Makes less sense for him than for the Bralani.

We'll see in the MM.

Interesting, Bralana the Eladrin appears to be some sort of hybrid martial/(arcane?) controller.

I wonder if rangers get that whirlwind blast power or if it is exclusive to NPCs?

That was the signature move of the Bralani in prior editions, it turned into a whirlwind and blasted people, so i think it would be his signature move, that maybe eladrins could gain in higher levels.

I find myself wondering how the Vampire Vizier's Dominating Gaze works.

Looks clear enough, but how does the Vizier "Continue" and "Conclude"? If he has to wait until the Gaze recharges, it seems very likely that the dominatee will make the save before the Vizier gets to fire three Gazes. I'd assume the Vizier gets to try his Gaze freely until the other guy shakes it off.
(On the other hand, the Vizier can then try it three times/round if he spends all his actions. Nasty.)

My guess is that the Vizier has to continue the gaze at the target for 3 successive rounds to complete all the effects.

If you want him to be a boss monster: build him as a PC, otherwise its not worth the effort.
For me, it's simply not worth the effort to build a monster as a PC, regardless if that monster is a boss or not.

I'm very much looking foward to 4e so I can just pick appropriate powers and run with 'em.

Oh, the image holding a bow was throwing me off.

I think that's right. The "continue" effect happens after the first failed save, and "conclude" after failing two consecutive saves. Like what we've heard about petrification effects: first you're slowed, then immobilized, then stonified. :D

Love it.

Hey, Ogre Magi is now called an Oni. :)

Many of these monsters I see working nicely with groups, gaining different benefits based on who they're with.

Sounds like a good theory....

We'll see in the MM.

But if the continue-conclude mechanic requires multiple hits by the monster, it would hardly ever work for the Bralani, which has to recharge its Curse of Autumn. It makes more sense that the Vampire is able to Dominate using one minor action and two failed saves by the target.
