RPGA Approved Living d20 Modern???

It just seem a little odd that if Living Spycraft could do it why not d20 Modern?
Because Living Spycraft has a company (AEG) and a group of volunteers who are willing to put in the effort. If you were willing to put the same effort into, say, Living Haven that AEG has put into Living Spycraft, it might happen.

Also, Spycraft has the advantage of a clearly defined genre basis for a Living campaign. A generic espionage/technothriller campaign will at least moderately appeal to the average Spycraft fan. There's no such commonality among the D20M fanbase -- one fan might want Urban Arcana, another fan might want Digital Burn, and the third might want Pulp Heroes or Iron Lords of Jupiter.

So there were some one-shot d20 Modern game done at cons? I could be wrong, but I don't see the same audeince for one-shots vs. Living. I know some Living Arcanis boys and they wouldn't dare waste time on a one-shot if L.A. was going on.

Hence the fact that Classics are far less popular than they used to be. Take a recent Denver con. Any given classic will be one table per slot. LG will be at least four tables per slot.

And no offence, but for me a one-shot is a one-shot. A classic either has to have some real history behind it, or be something that impresses me to the point that I know it wil have some longevity.

You can't offend me, I gave up on classics a couple of years ago. They do have one notable advantage- you don't have to prep a character in advance.
Also, in many cases, the quality of Living modules is drek.

Around here there are a couple of organizations that believe that classics are inherently superior vis a vis roleplaying, and as such have been writing high quality classics (some of which are D20 Modern I believe). Thus there has been some resurgence of classics. Also some types of modules, or system are well suited to classics. Think of Call of Cthulu- personally I can't imagine a campaign of much duration in that world.

Well I can say I am inspired. We wanted to do a "Living" type campaign with Have: COV when if first came out and we started plans to do so. Now with Haven: D20 coming out we have been converting over those adventures to run for d20 Modern fans. Personally I think what we have planned will get people into d20 Modern and the more fans there are the more help we can get. Our original goal was to do a year long series that would have roughly 15 adventures in the year. We would separate the adventures into two types: Hardcore - Which are adventures that are following along the main storyline for the year. Softcore - That were stand along adventure that could or could not be part of the main story. These adventures are what you would think of as in classics.

After talk with several individuals in the RPGA they informed me that trying to do a campaign like a "Living" ones we would need to release one every other week to compete with the “big boys”. Well we don’t have that many adventures but this is something we want do. After Charles Rice finishes with the Haven: d20 we are going to releases the newly revamped original d20 Modern adventures. If people are interested in what we have done, we will do more. We will promote them to any and all that might be interested in help us build this, so we can get interest by the RPGA and get them on board on what we are doing. So I am going to say any one who is really interested, REALLY SERIOUS IN HELPING and want to help build this from the ground up with us, please send us an e-mail to LMPjr007@aol.com and I will coordinate everyone so we can play adventures at any of your local cons. With your support and help we can get this up and running and get people playing d20 Modern at the same level as any other RPGA run campaign.

"Classic" is just the term the RPGA usees, to differentiate them from "Living". I's not meant to imply longevity or impact, as in "classic car." They had a contest years ago, looking for a more descriptive term, but I guess they didn't find one.

The difference between Classic and Living is that classics came with pre-written characters. The best ones, old school, had characters who were integral to the adventure, ones with thorough backgrounds and interesting relationships with the other PCs in the adventure. They were part of the action for a reason, the way your home PC might be in a really good DMs campaign. Who they were, and what they could do really mattered to the adventure.

The d20 Modern classics, however, came late, when the RPGA had pretty much given up on rich characters and tightly-woven plots. The few I playes when d20 Modern first cam out had one paragraph backgrounds and MAYBE a line or two about the other pcs, if that.

That's why none of the die-hard classics fans play them. They were lame.
