News From the Top: The RPGA Update Farewell to the Living City
An announcement and explanation about the RPGA dropping Living City.
Heh, that campaign. I have to smile and feel somewhat frustrated at the same time.
Anybody else here have some good times playing that campaign?
jh
I played LC and LG for a while. I got sick of it for a few reasons:
1. Restrictions on race/class/etc. - all of the splat books came out with great new options and you could hardly use anything from them. Additionally, the idea of restricting options to certain regions kind of defeats the idea of fair play for all involved.
2. I got tired of the atmosphere that felt like you were penalized for not getting into the campaign early on in that they restricted options to only those who had the certs.
3. Got sick of showing up to a gameday and sitting next to people who needed a shower, adult supervision, or a mental health check-up. Of course, this isn't restricted to just LC/LG players.
I think part of the problem with LG/LC is the RPGA itself - in trying to make things fair and balanced, they've taken out a bunch of options that would make the game fun and unique.
Additionally, like LC, I see LG going the way of the dodo once Eberron is released, for a few reasons:
1. WOTC hasn't supported Greyhawk for about 5 years or so. Sure, the occasional article or adventure ends up in Dragon/Dungeon, but there has been no effort whatsoever to update Greyhawk with a new campaign set of some sort - something similar to Unappproachable East or Silver Marches that was done for Forgotten Realms.
2. Eberron will be More! Faster! Bigger! which will make the munchkins happy and RPGA will be forced to support it, since it seems that the efforts to get people to play D&D has given us the great unwashed masses of younger players who haven't received the benefit of being mentored by older players.
Is it too much to ask that we be allowed to play in a Meta-Campaign where the majority of the players don't fit the stereotype of "wierd, smelly gamer?"
