RPGing and Alcohol.

Maybe.

Some time ago, I use to run a shadowrun game that was held at a gaming forums regular meetings - which were at a pub. Most of us didnt drink, but those those who did made up for it. One player would regularly turn up half-cut already, and then down a few more. It turned out pretty funny, because he did some evil things to the rest of the party (such as swapping combat drugs for lsd).

In london, I used to run a game where there was a couple of beers occasionally during or before the game - but nothing extreme.

Now, most people drive to the game, and not that many of my players drink, so no beers!

Coming from an 18 year old whom, of course, has access to alchohol, I must say that It interferes in our games. Teenagers and even people in their mid 20s that I have gamed with are never fun to play with when they are drinking. Smoking is worse, as they get up from the table and go outside -interfering with the game. Now maybe, when I'm playing with people in their 30's, things will be possible in moderation. But for now, the houserule is nothing for anyone. I don't drink, so it's not an issue or complaint from me. Most of my players don't (save the guy who is old enough to do it legally), so it's a relative non-issue to keep him away from it.
