RPGing and Alcohol.

Lots of Booze and Pot at the table. Never have a problem with people getting too "out of it." Makes it even more fun for the group. I vote YES to alchohol and drugs during D&D!

I just wish that CoC would have been out during my acid days ...now *that* would be awesome:

DM: You see Cthulhu rise from the deep!
Me: oh far out, man, his tentacles are leaving all these cool trails ...and like your skin is getting this really unhealthy green glow <drifts off to have an indepth discussion with the cat>...

I think that the problem with beer at the table is all the bathroom breaks more than anything else ...of course I can go through 3 or 4 liters of pepsi during a game and that's just as bad ...

Everyone of my group drinks a couple of beers during the session. It actually helps to create a loose atmosphere and even the more introverted persons can get into roleplaying. What we play depends actually on how much drinks we have. Just a couple of beers and no pot or spirits, I can handle even GURPS. More booze or pot and we stick to D20. Sometimes I got so drunk and stoned that I couldn't remember the simplest rules, so we just put the books away and had a diceless game. One of my best ever.:D

I've never played regularly with a group that drinks at the table. I've played one-off sessions where the booze was flowing, and one of the folks I play with currently sometimes has a glass of wine while we game, but that's about it.

I don't drink much or often, and the idea of drinking while gaming seems sort of odd to me. I'm such a lightweight that I know I wouldn't be able to play or DM well with a buzz -- let alone sloppy drunk. ;)

I honestly can't remember it coming up in any of the games I've run. I like to keep a pretty focused atmosphere when I DM, and I suspect having alcohol at the table wouldn't work for me.

Beer is good
Roleplaying is good
Beer is roleplaying
ARRGGHH

The guys I game with drink, if they remember to bring it. I usually have some beer sitting around, but I drink only hard stuff, so if they bring it, they can drink it. We are responsible enough to make sure no one drives home who shouldn't. I don;t recall ever getting drunk at a game, though a couple of shots after a major battle helps cool things down. (No one in my group is a lightweight.)
I did sign up for a game at a local con where the DM was sloshed (It was a 11:30 pm game and ran until we couldn't keep our eyes open.) I am the only one who made it out alive (though that was due to the mod, not the DM) It was a fun night.

Alchohol at the table is fine in my opinon. IT can relax people and get them more into thier character. If you the DM and not drunk, it is even funnier when they are. If nothing gets done, so what. Your there to have fun anyway. As long as you had a good time, it dosen't matter if there was a TPK.

Well - I suppose it's what you're used to. Where I come from, if more than two people are in the room, all of them are drinking. It's just a French thing, I guess.

That said, we have two Americans who play with us, neither of whom drinks. Nobody has any problem with it.

SMOKING is what get's ugly. Nobody is allowed to smoke (I'm allergic, and I'm the DM). I've only had three death-threats (in game, of course) over the subject....

I only remember drinking during game ONCE(we're all underage, actually, so shhh!) on NEw Year's Eve, 2001. We were trashed while playing Rifts(which is more enjoyable than playing Rifts sober, methinks), and after every conflict, we found that we'd lost at least 1/3 of our subordinates, so we had to radio for more of them. It ended(for me) when I got up to go to the bathroom, tripped on Weston(this really big black guy who was sitting next to me. It still amazes me that I could not notice him, since he's about 6'2, 6'6 with the fro, and he really stood out at the table full of white boys) and landed on the floor, and decided, "Ok, NOW I've had enough to drink."

I think that it depends a lot with the group that you are playing with. I don't drink, but I've played with people who did without any problem. However, my last gaming group forbade alcohol because the DM (whose house we were playing in) had a 5 year old son running around. I think if alcohol is going to be allowed common sense should be used:
Drink in moderation-getting smashed really doesn't enhance the game for others
Only drink if everyone else is of legal age-I wouldn't allow drinking if I was playing with teenagers since it would be seen as a bad influence (possibly causing people to associate gaming with drinking).

We haven't discussed it, but now that I think of it, no one has ever had a drink during a game. Of course, the game I DM usually meets on Sunday morning (we're all non-religious) so unless we had bloody Marys, I don't think anyone would be interested. The game I play in meets in the evenings, but as I say, it hasn't ever come up.

We certainly aren't teetotalers, so I don't know why we haven't had beer or wine. It's kinda funny. I do know that none of the people I game with likes to get drunk, so if we did drink, it wouldn't be much.
