RS1-Stolen University (Salix Judging)

The Juggler frowns. "That voice sounds familiar. Might be a certain professor--acquaintence of mine who had--an interest in powers that was slightly unhealthy. Didn't call himself anything then, but that might have changed." He taps idly on the table. "He might be the Minister-though there's at least one other person going by that title. Possibly two."

More wheels begin turning in Archeville's mind at the Juggler's words, and of a possible ploy to use to get The Minister to lower his guard. It would require duplicity and guile, though. Archeville made no mention of it yet, though, stil working aspects of it out in his mind, as he continued working on tecnhical ways to scan, bring down, and bypass the field.

[sblock=OOC]Oh, I'd like to point the GM -- and rgordona -- to this post by Mr. Kenson over at the Atomic Think Tank, where he tells how to use Artificer/Inventor/Ritualist to modify existing devices and equipment. It seems he's saying that to modify an existing Device -- say, by adding a Power Feat/Alternate Power to it for a scene -- would only cost the amount of the addition/modification (in the case of adding Power Feat/alternate Power, a mere 1 pp). Is this okay to use here? Should I be making a formal Proposal post in the forum at large?[/sblock]

[Sblock=Rules questions to which the answer is no :>]Would you allow either of the following?

a)Adding 5 to the design DC on a magical ritual to do it in half the time? (As per technological inventions.) [Using Ritualist]

b)Using Perform - Magic instead of "the appropriate craft skill" to perform an invented magic trick? [Using Artificer][/sblock]
[sblock=OOC]
a) I'm wary of just saying yes or no to this one, but I'm completley willing to meet you halfway and look at it on a case-by-case basis.

b) I would think Perform (Magic) would be the appropriate "craft" skill in performing an invented magic trick, no problems there.

"You know this person?" the major asks looking directly at Juggler, "You wouldn't have any clue as to motive then, would you?"

ooc: UP STUFF: H4H proposed almost all of the stuff from UP so it's not surprising that he's letting builds based on the book slip in. Last post from me until Raylis asks for advice. I must say he's doing a bang-up job so far. :D

The Juggler frowns. "I spoke to him briefly--when he was looking for 'research subjects'. I doubt I'd get a lot of mileage from that, if he even remembered me. Men like him are hardly known for their trusting and open natures. More for shooting you and then using your body for material the moment they get suspicious." He begins to tap on the table. "As I recall it, his great interest was increasing the number of supers. Wasn't having a lot of luck finding people dumb enough to take his offer. Was starting to consider alternate methods of collecting volunteers."

"Fascinating...." Archeville mused.

[sblock=Inner Monologue]Yeah, if by 'fascinating' you mean 'I wish I'd thought of that first!' the lil' devil on Archeville's left shoulder quipped.

Hey, now, we know Human Experimentation is wrong, in many ways, the lil' angel on his right shoulder replied. There's simply not enough data out there about metahuman superpowers to--

Which is exactly why experiments need to be done! What matter the loss of a few lives, a few hundred lives, if Science is served?! How can knowledge be gained if we are too timid to pursue it?!

What good is Science without an ethical and moral mind to guide it, hrm?[/sblock]

Archeville massaged his temples for a moment, then gathered up his notes and stood up. "It seems ve have a plan, then -- find a stealthy way in, find where The Minister is holding his subjec-- er, the students und faculty, und free them and take down The Minister. Hopefully we can get there in time to prevent him from horribly mutating anyone, or creating an army of super-powered and near-mindless foot soldiers..."

"Unless there is anything else which needs be discussed, I shall retire to ze temporary laboratory that vas set up for me here und begin work on a way for us to get in; it should take me a little over two hours." He re-holstered his Blaster, then looked around the table, finally stopping on Zenji. "You may wish to retire to your... meditation chamber, or whatever, and focus yourself, or whatever it is you mages do. You may need to be the one to breach the field, if it is magical in nature."

Zenji pulls out his staff as he's talking, holding it on display horizontally. "Oh, I'm good. Like I said before, I'm no mage... I've just got some really powerful toys. Not that I don't appreciate the concern, Doctor." As he walks away, he begins idly spinning it and quickly loses his grip, hurling the ancient artifact at the wall. With a nervous giggle, he mumbles something incoherent as it clatters to the floor and then bends down to pick it up.

Archeville smirks as he sees Zenji go down the hall. Nice kid... means well.....

Once he feels the Antiquarian is out of earshot, he turns to his other teammates, particularly Juggler & Mr. Jones. "Gentlemen, before I go off to the laboratory, I have another idea, though I did not want to speak it in front of Zenji, as it requires duplicity and deceit."

"In essence, I plan to betray you all."

[sblock=Inner Monologue]Yes!!!

What?![/sblock]

"Not really betray, of course, but merely make it seem to the Minister as if I am. I do have something of a reputation in my homeland as being a 'Mad Scentist,' and if The Minister has or had any connections to various institutes of higher learning, he may have heard of me. If so, it's possible we can trick him into thinking I've come to his side by 'double-crossing' you all in front of him... say, by rendering you all unconscious with my Blaster, though in truth it would be set to fire a harmless beam of intense light. He could welcome the delivery of new test subjects," he then glanced over at Barrett, "particularly ones with known superpowers. Juggler, you could be an accomplice of sorts in this, say you turned me to his way of thinking. Once we were all taken within the Minister's laboratories and he rambles and rants on about his goals, we would then all spring an ambush."

"Do you think this plan feasible?"

Mr Jones looks surprised by the doctor's suggestion "I suppose that might work, but it could also go very wrong. I am not sure if we have the coordination as a team to pull it off. It might be too much of a risk. What do you think Juggler?"

As the doctor heads off to the lab Mr Jones smiles "A couple of hours, you work fast. I would be hard pressed to create anything in twice that time."

Mr Jones then takes a careful look at the map of the site. "How close can we risk putting the Vigilant down?" He asks, "Parking lot number nine looks a good site. It is just outside the field and right beside an emergency station. it is also just opposite the science building a good place to start if we think this Minister is going to try conducting some fiendish experiments. Or perhaps the playing field to the south (34) would be better. That is beside the State crime lab(60) and the University Theatre(57) is just across the force field, a good place for a criminal to gather a lot of hostages. It is also close to the TV and communications buildings (9,37) perhaps the Minister used them to record his radio broadcast. It's also very good to see the hospital is close by."

[sblock=ooc inventions]I can't see how AV can make anything in a couple of hours with out a hero point. I could not get it under 4 hours without some fairly creative play. :>

My thinking is as follows but very OOC and Jones has given up on the idea and is leaving it to AV:

Teleport (2) Affects others (+0) Progression 2 (+2) Action: Full minute (-3) Fades(-1) = 1/2pp

So a spell/trick/magical ritual to teleport up to 5 people up to 100' which takes a minute to get them from one place to another and can only be used once!

That might be 4 hours design and 10 mins of ritual to set it up. (Taking the -5 penalty if allowed would cut research/design time down to 2h.)

There is the alternative of stunting some quickness from somewhere which might get the design time down to minutes and hope to recover from the fatigue naturally in the time available.

[sblock=My opinion]As a GM I would be very dubious about even allowing the power construction listed here let alone the tricks to reduce the design time :>

And I really must find out how to do private messages as this is probably not best posted in public. [/sblock][/sblock]

"I agree, there is much chance for error, which is why I wanted to run it by you two first," Archeville says, looking at both Mr. Jones & the Juggler. "You two are more... practiced in such matters than I, and I bow to your expertise." Archeville then gave a little bow as he rose up and floated off to the laboratory.

[sblock=Archeville's Invention]What I've got planned would require the GM's to agree to Kenson's proposal/suggestion that using Invention (or Artificer) to modify an existing Device can be done, though the time & skill check is based on the amount modified, not the total price, and so doing something like installing an Alternate Power would be as if Inventing a 1pp invention (the cost of the Alternate Power Power Feat).

If this is allowed, then Arcehville's planning to modify the flight function of his Gravimetric Belt from this

Flight 4 (100 mph; PFs: Instant Up, Move-By Action) [10pp]

To this:

Flight 4 (100 mph; PFs: Instant Up, Move-By Action, Alternate Power - ESP 3 (visual, 1,000 ft.) and Teleport 1 (100 ft.; Extra: Portal)

Archeville's belt lets him fly by manipulating gravity fields around him (it's not so much flying as it is very, very, very controlled falling); he can switch it to warp light towards him (the visual ESP) and to create very small and very short-distance spatial distortions/wormholes ("gravity is just bends in space, caused by the presence of matter"). (If it helps any as precedent, Marvel's Graviton has done all these things -- and more -- with his gravity manipulation powers.)

This'd be just 1pp, which'd be DC 11 to Design (child's play for Archeville's +20 Knowledge/Technology), and take 1 hour to design (really 2.4 minutes thanks to Archeville's Mental Task Quickness 4). It's a DC 11 Craft check to build (taking 4 hours), also child's play for Archeville's +18 Craft/Electronics; by taking a -5 penalty on the Craft check (easily done by him) he can do it in half the time, or two hours.

If the GM's don't want to abide by the Kenson suggestion, there is another way he can (potentially) do a 1pp Teleporter -- Teleport 1 (100 ft.; Extra: Portal; Flaw: Action/Full Round; Drawback: Action 2/5 Minutes to Activate)[/sblock]
