Rule question BURST

This thread has gone a long way in confirming my blast/burst thoughts, although the line-of-sight string-checks (corners to corners) seems like it's going against 4e's "keep it simple" mantra.

One thing that keeps me puzzled is the use of "close blast". From this thread, I take it that "close" and "blast" are redundant? There is no ranged-blast?

As far as I know there is no ranged blast. The only reason I could see to keep the 'close' description is for adjudicating OAs (none for close attacks).

It also leaves the option for a "ranged blast" power at some later date without having to errata every previous blast power.
