[Rules Exercise/Fight Club/Goofing Off] He just won't go down!!

But with Deathless Frenzy he doesn't die at -10.

On a completely unrelated note, I had hope the Paragon Patootie was just a fever dream. I don't know what will become of the world now that it is shown to be more than that.

Just remember that if you (at any point) find yourself at -10 or lower you are dead.

Normally that's true. But that's the fun part. As James pointed out, this guy doesn't die at -10. So hit him all you like, he just won't go down! :)

the ring of nine lives or whatever it's called is like as if you had a contingency cast on you. As soon as you hit 0hp all damage is healed. Now you are saying well what if you have 1 hp left and get hit for 11, well you take that 1hp of damage, all damage is then healed cuz you reached 0, then the left over 10 damage is subtracted from your now healed total of hp. sort of like as if I you were the second terminator, you know, that liquid one. Put a sword through him and wounds closes as it goes through type thing sorta. My cleric always has a contingency with heal up for as soon as he hits 0hp heal gets cast on him. Made him survive 4 targetted meteor swarms at the same time =op

Will that ring keep him alive even if a Vorpal Weapon chops his head off? If not, you should somehow give him Heavy Fortification to avoid such a critical weakness.

Are you sure, Contingency works this way?

I'd rather think that the damage is applied at once and the spell triggers afterwards, i.e. 1 hp + 11 damage = dead.

Ok, with that deathless frenzy it's less of a problem, I suppose! :D

Whut about anti-magic shell or Mordenkainen's Disjunction? Kinda take the stuffin outta yer beasty. 17th level parties tend ta have such things.

Aaaaw. :o
I missed that.

(I'm not sure if that ability is really meant to be a truly deathless frenzy though, even if that's what it says.)

How would the creature be vs. death spells?

My personal strategy against such a creature would be:

1. Spot Beastie before he spots you. (+30 Spot enhancing item would be preferable)
2. Cast Haste
3. Quickened Enervation (Touch AC: 12)
4. Partial Action: Double Empowered Enervation
5. Wail of the Banshee

On average, the saving throws will drop by 7,5, which gives +19 on fortitude saves.

And hope that the beastie will fail it's saving throw, which is feasible with DC 36 vs. a 9th level spell.

Conclusion: The beast will have to roll 17 or better to survive, and that vs. a 18th level wizard. That's 20% chance. Of course, if it survives, it will have to kill the wizard in one round, or he'll throw another wail of the banshee in its face.

Optionally, if the PC has that continual haste on himself, he only have to win initiative, which he will.

I don't know if this strategy would work, but off the top of my head, this is what I would do.
With party members distracting the beast, I think it would be easy to pull off.
