my summary is:

Nothing to see, move along....

I guess they already hit the main stuff with the essentials update pdf they did with the initial release.....

edit: maybe some of the psychic power stuff might be noteworthy, but I don't have it so i wasn't waiting for any clarifications there...

The errata team has been on time so far, no?

Still, it's nice to see that the update is both on time and that it is small.

I remember in the Gencon Podcast I think- one of the things mentioned as part of Mearls's new job was reducing the amount of updates/errata...

I don't know if they meant reducing the need for it, or just not being as strict with it.

I leave that to people who are far better at picking apart rules for unbalancedness.

Hmm. I found a strange thing.

The above mentioned "October 2010 Updates" is quite small. It does not even contain the racial stats changes and other revisions suggested by "Changes Coming in Essentials" article.

On the other hand, if you click "Rules Updates Archive" and read the "Compiled Rules Updates" there, you see those revisions are included as updates for PHB and such.

Hmm? Does that mean the design team has forgot to add those revisions into "October 2010 Updates" file?

Or, are they considering "Changes Coming in Essentials" to be, actually, a kind of "September 2010 Updates" or something?

This kind of "stealth" update is very, very inconvenient.

I did notice that too -- while I won't start jumping down anyone's throat to say it was purposeful etc, i will say it is a little inconvenient since that is what was implied previously.

Of course, there is the compiled stuff where it all is, so that is a plus. Previously, it wasn't compiled or broken down by book, just huge files. -- So in my mind, that actually makes up for the above inconvenience.

Heh -- amusingly, the Primal Power and Psionic Power updates point to Primal Power because of the "PP" abbreviation. So I hope no one needed Psionic Power. :D

I don't see it as any sort of stealth update. They posted the changes publicly - they gave it a different name to clarify it was due largely to the release of Essentials. They announced that these "changes will be incorporated into the rules update documents", as they have been as of present.

I just... don't see any sneakiness going on at all.
