Running a 3.5 Return to the Tomb of Horrors

I've heard far too many vague hints, dire predictions, prophecies of doom, and other nasty things about this module that I MUST run it.

Given that, what exactly would I need to have on-hand to run a 3.5 version of it? I'll obviously need the 3.5 core books and the 3.5 conversion that's up in the Conversions subforum, but what else will be needed?

Is it safe to assume you have the Adventure itself in hand?

If not, you REALLY need it. Search Ebay and make sure you have a complete boxed set - that adventure shines with all the picture booklets, prop cards, maps, etc.

Second, be aware that it WILL KILL CHARACTERS, especially of the careless players. You need to let your players know you won't be using necessarily the same play style with it that you would with a more casual or "friendly" game. They need to think like they're special forces agents and it's a new holiday, Kobiyashi Maru Day.

One of my favorite aspects of this adventure (and the accompanying classic Tomb of Horrors) are the pictures. It's got a booklet full of pictures for almost every room, trap, and encounter. You should show each pic to the players at the appropriate time.

Nope, don't have the adventure. Bidding on one on eBay right now. Know anyplace else that would be good to check for a copy?

Im running the adventure right now (for 3.5) the extra maps, and booklets are nice. Some of the pictures are quite humorous. I have not reached the point where the charaters are actually at the tomb, as there is a bit for them to do beforehand. Building up the plot, meeting important NPCs, etc.

I strongly recommend getting the boxed set as well.

I ran it and we loved it. Careless pcs are doomed, though. (My group amazingly made it through with no permanent casualties, and I'm known for being a mean bastard- I took out (not necessarily killed, but removed from play) 3 pcs in last night's game, for instance...)

What's this "boxed set" thing people keep talking about? I've had the adventure since 1981 and it didn't come in a box then. Heck, I even have a second copy that I got sometime in the early 90's, but no box there either. Of course, both copies were printed in virtually the same year, but I digress. When was there a version of "The Tomb Of Horrors" that came in a box???

Apparently Return to the Tomb of Horrors came in a box that included the original Tomb of Horrors along with it.
