S1: The Strange Case of Aif Jenkins' Farm (E13 judge) - Concluded

No AoO for the 5 foot step the wolves took to attack those with reach weapons. I thought that was right, but I couldn't think of why.

Round 3
Eusebius releases his chain and lashes out with his fists against the wolf. He smacks it once and feels the flesh give beneath its thick fur (5 pts dmg)

Beamer and his lupine opponent fight a wild tumbling battle. Beamer manages to roll away from the beast and releases a pair of magical missiles, which fry his opponents flesh. This wolf is already bleeding heavily from Banion's blade, and gives a whimper.

Boog can't seem to pull himself away from his opponent. He focuses, and transfers his significant damage to his opponent, who lives, but looks about dead. The wolf snaps at him futilely, as though already doomed.

Juliana drops her guisarme, whips out her flail and delivers a powerful blow to her opponent. She appears to have snapped its spine. It drops to the floor twitching. (Wouldn't her flail dmg be +4, not +7? Either way, though, her wolf is down.)

The wolves fight with viscious speed, snapping relentlessly at the heroes. Beamer and Eusebius aren't so lucky, each loosing some flesh and blood to the wolves' teeth and claws. (7 to Eusebius, 3 to Beamer) Even worse, both are pulled to the ground by the wolves jaws.

Banion manifests another mindblade and recharges it. (I don't know what 'recharges' it means. But I guess Banion doesn't move this round then. Beamer and his opponent have moved beyond Beamer's sight. Slagmortar, please NPC Banion if Patlin is slow to post.)

Round 4 Yer up!

Beamer does his best to avoid the wolf's jaws while on the ground and calls out the same incantation from a moment before. Two more darts burrow into the wolf's flesh.

OOC:
Rules notes:
[SBLOCK]
He tries to focus and place his shimmering palm on the wolf's body, but its teeth find his wrist, breaking arteries and veins and twisting the elan to the ground, senseless
Delivering a touch spell/power is considered an "armed" attack so would not provoke an attack of opportunity.
See here: under "armed" unarmed attacks
(I don't know what 'recharges' it means. But I guess Banion doesn't move this round then. Beamer and his opponent have moved beyond Beamer's sight. Slagmortar, please NPC Banion if Patlin is slow to post.)
Recharges refers to psychic strike
I believe Banion took a 5 foot step closer to the fight (N9).
[/SBLOCK]No problem posting for Banion, but I'll wait a little while first.
Rolls: concentration: 19, magic missle: 6
Spells remaining:
0th: 5, 1st: 3, 2nd: 3
Spells in effect: Mage armor (4 hours), AC 19 - 4 (prone) = 15, Bless (18 rounds)
HP: 79/17

OOC: Offensive Prescience adds +3 for 5 minutes to all damage she does, regardless of the weapon.

OOC2: Beamer's Recharge is the Psychic Strike ability of the Soulblade. +1d8 or 2d8 damage, depending on level, non AoO move action to recharge.

OOC3: What Slag Morter said about touch spells.

Juliana, tries to drive back the wolf on her, but misses it badly.

OOC: Juliana's attack Round 4 (1d20+7=8, 1d10+7=12) Ouch :(

Oops. That does make touch attack spells a much better deal. I'll edit my round 3 post to reflect Boog's new situation. Also I'd neglected to modify the wolf's bite dmg to Beamer. It should be 2 less from the ray of enfeeblement. So updated HP totals: Boog, Juliana, Banion: full. Beamer 9/17, Eusebius 23/30

"Yes!", came Boog's mental shout in the minds of his companions. The humming and the sheen gone, he lashed out with his dagger. The blade plunged deep into the foul beast's coat, had he struck home?[sblock=OoC: ]Back to the dagger. Attack is d20+4 (+3 +1 for Bless) = 14, don't know if that hit. If it did, damage is 1d4+1=4. 29/29 HP, 18/34 PP remaining.[/sblock]

Proxy for Patlin

Banion moves forward (L9) and flings his mind blade at the wolf attacking Beamer.

OOC:
mind blade with psychic strike and point blank shot (1d20+13=26, 1d4+3+1d8=8)
Also, I think wolves and dogs (and anything else with bites only?) get 1.5*Str bonus to damage which would mean a -3 penalty to damage from the -5 penalty to strength? Not a real big deal, but I'm already wishing I'd used a magic missle instead of ray of enfeeblement. :) I need to save those for the big battles against one major enemy or some one wearing a lot of equipment.

Looks like you're right ont he bite dmg, Sladmortar. So Beamer's up to 10 HPs. Beamer is prone from the wolf trip. I'll assume he's casting defensively to avoid the AoO.

Round 4:
Eusebius (NPCed) rolls to his feet, receiving a viscious bite in the attempt. He then kicks and punches to keep the animal from his throat (flurry of blows), but can't get a solid hit.

Beamer sends two more missiles into his opponent, and can smell the burning furr and flesh.

Boog sinks his dagger into his ailing foe, weakening it further. Juliana tries to help, but even from her flanking position, can't connect.

The wolf suffering from the bite wounds it inflicted on Boog turns tail and flees. So fast the beast, and so dim the light, that it is almost immediately out of sight and out of the compound. The wolf fighting Beamer is just as badly wounded, but with the halfling under its jaws, it can't resist trying to finish what it started. It sinks its teeth into Beamer again. (4 pts dmg). Eusebius's opponent bites him again terribly near the neck (10 pts dmg - Eusebius at 3), but doesn't pull him down.

Even as Beamer struggles with the wolve's jaws clamped on his shoulder, Banion's mind blade buries into its heart, and it collapses. A 300 pound wolf on the little halfling.

Round 5 - yer up again!

"Arrgh!", Boog thought in frustration over the mindlink. He had so wanted to bring that beast down!

Over his shoulder, Boog saw another wolf savaging Eusebius. Everybody "heard" him think, "Let me get that for you", but only Eusebius could meet his eyes and understand what he was about. The other animal's blood still dripping from his dagger, Boog took a step closer to the beast and stabbed deeply into it's back as it howled like its companion.[sblock=OoC: ]5' step to G12, no AoO for leaving a threatened square, move action. Attack is d20+6 (+3 +1 for Bless +2 for Flanking) = 23, Damage is 1d4+1 = 5, IC likes me. 29/29 HP, 18/34 PP remaining.[/sblock]

Assuming Beamer isn't pinned completely under the wolf ... (if he is then he thinks over the mind link Get this thing off me!)

Beamer heaves a sigh of relief as Banion's blade hits home, but is immediately struggling to get that breath back as the beast bears down on him.

Beamer also realizes that his blinding spell is wearing off soon, and quickly forms a plan, which the dead wolf just might actually help with. He thinks over the mind link, I'm making myself look like Rafferty, the one that ran, in order to lure Toler back into the open. Don't kill me. He reaches into his Haversack and pulls out a scroll of disguise self which he quickly uses to look as much like Rafferty as possible. In his best impersonation of a wounded, breathless Rafferty voice, Beamer calls out, "Toler, help! I'm hurt." He has trouble with the neither the wounded nor the breathless part, but the rest may be a stretch. He hopes it was good enough. (Bluff +10, Disguise +15 with spell)

OOC: I don't know if that has any chance of working, but I figured it would be fun and was worth a shot.
