Round 8 (con't)
Banion tumbles forward and strikes the monk a powerful blow. The monk barely remains standing.

Juliana attempts to regain her focus, it slows her and the monk seizes the opportunity to punch her, but may as well be punching a stone wall. She then swings her flail, but misses.

Round 9
The overmatched monks flail away at Banion and Eusebius, shifting slightly, but can't hit.

Round 8 status:
Init order:
Monks (4,5)
Beamer (11/17) <--
Mano (16 dmg taken)
Orc (26 dmg taken)
Humans
archers (1 & 2) (one injured from earlier combat)
Banion (29/40) (mind blade ready)
Eusebius (4/37, mage armor)
Juliana (6/45, force screen, thicken skin)

IC: Beamer moves to a position where the monk struck by Banion does not have cover from him. He lobs a ball of acid at the monk, hoping the small bit on top of the blow he received is enough to overcome him.

OOC: I'm a little confused on where the enemies are. I think everyone except the monks fled or ran after the orc.
Regarding attacks of opportunity from gaining focus: I don't think making it a move action removes the attack of opportunity, and I don't think the concentration skill let's you "regain focus on the defensive" to avoid the attack of opportunity. I haven't really played with psionics in actual games much, though, so I don't really know how people usually do it.
acid orb (1d20+8=11, 1d3+1=4)
Well, I'll be. Beamer had never missed a touch attack until this fight. I think that's his third miss in a row. I'm glad I didn't decide to use a charge from the wand. Yeesh.

OOC: Oh, I realise it may not remove the attack of opertunity, but I did actualy get an attack off (and fail) with my focus.

OOC: She has the feat that lets her do it as a move action.

ooc: Yes, but that's all the feat changes. The AOO remains, but can be avoided with a concentration check. I didn't want to quote only half the sentence. ;)

ooc: Actually, concentration can be used to avoid an AOO related to a skill check, and regaining focus is just a skill check. Here's the quote:

You can use Concentration to cast a spell, use a spell-like ability, or use a skill defensively, so as to avoid attacks of opportunity altogether. This doesn’t apply to other actions that might provoke attacks of opportunity.

The DC of the check is 15 (plus the spell’s level, if casting a spell or using a spell-like ability defensively). If the Concentration check succeeds, you may attempt the action normally without provoking any attacks of opportunity. A successful Concentration check still doesn’t allow you to take 10 on another check if you are in a stressful situation; you must make the check normally. If the Concentration check fails, the related action also automatically fails (with any appropriate ramifications), and the action is wasted, just as if your concentration had been disrupted by a distraction.
