S1: The Strange Case of Aif Jenkins' Farm (E13 judge) - Concluded

Beamer hears Eusebius's call in his mind, but as he brings up the wand there is suddenly one of the monks in front of him. He instead directs the streak of fire at this new attacker.
OOC: Scorching ray on the monk with the roll above.

Using your wand standing in front of him would provoke an AoO, wouldn't it? I'll assume you take a step back first.

Round 4 (con't)
Beamer steps back and fries the attacking monk, dropping him into a pile of ashes.

The lion attacks Boog. It hits with both claws, doing another brutal mauling (16 pts dmg). Fortunately for the psion, it can't get its mouth on him to draw him into a rake.

[at this point, I believe Boog does drop. Using his 8 remaining power points to avoid death brings him to -4 HPs total after this attack, doesn't it]

Meanwhile from behind, the archers, out of the darkness, comes a cackeling laugh, and a female voice "Eat them, my pretty!" Juliana then feels the attack on her mind again. From the depths of her memory comes a shot of brutal pain. (Take 13 pts dmg - or half w/successful will save DC 17)

Round 4 status:
Init order:
Ogre (4 pts str lost/34 pts dmg taken - dead)
Monks (1,2 & 3) (1 & 2 blind)
Beamer (11/17)
Mano (blind)
EE (11 dmg taken)
Lion (10 dmg taken)
Boog (-20/29) (loaded crossbow & HET readied) <--
Banion (32/40) (mind blade expended)
archers (4 & 5) (one injured from earlier combat)
Juliana (5/45)
Eusebius (10/37, mage armor)

ooc: Using an immediate action on the arrow damage would preclude using one on the lion damage, since Boog didn't go in between. However, didn't Boog have a readied action on the lion aproaching? I know I argued that was illegal, but I thought that was the ruling.

Cursing himself for his cowardice, Eusebius moves forward and heals Juliana with the increasingly useful wand. He reasons that she can hold off the lion while he heals Boog next.

[sblock=OOC]By the way, since the ogre dropped before Eusebius' turn in the round, his Spiritual Weapon is free to attack another enemy. He'll direct it to attack the lion. This is in round #3. At the end of that round it disappears.

In fact, now that I check, it takes a move action to redirect the weapon, so he wouldn't have retreated in that round, so he doesn't need to come forward again.

CLW Wand has 42 charges left.[/sblock]

OOC: Eusebius didn't hear Juliana at my request? :(

Juliana drops, bleeding from her ears.

OOC: Juliana's Will Save (1d20+5=6), that puts her at -8 I think.
OOC: Blast! Missed that.

Is anybody else having difficulty keeping track?

Manz, there's no way that Eusebius would have ignored a direct request for healing - can we rewrite, giving Juliana the 6 hp from the second CLW instead of Eusebius, and assuming that he didn't retreat because he redirected the Spiritual Weapon instead?

No. I don't believe he was able to ready an attack. I believe Juliana's request was actually in an OOC comment. & we both forget about round 3 of Eusebius's spiritual weapon.

Let's assume, reasonably, that in round 3, Eusebius used his move action to retarget the mace to the lion. Unfortunately, missing. In this case, he was adjacent to Juliana and could use his wand on her instead. It makes no visible difference. Juliana is still out (@-2) & Eusebius is back to 4 HPs.

With this as the situation, we're waiting for Banion's action to continue.

Thanks for being good sports about this. I realize it looks pretty grim. But this is supposed to be a 'strange case' & there's more about to happen....

OOC: She did request healing vocaly earlier. She didn't the secont time, and it ends up not mattering too much, though -2 means she's a little farther away from dead. Juliana's stuborn about asking for help, and it took her enough to ask for it the first time. And I trust you Manz, it's been fun, and a few rolls go the other way and we're in much better shape.

ooc: Well, by my calculation Boog is dead and Juliana is unconcious. That would put Banion up next.

Banion grimly charges his mindblade and throws it at the lion. The little halfling is, as usual, a precise shot...

Last Ditch effort (1d20+11=22, 1d4+2+1d8=8)

Edit: That omits PBS bonuses (+1/+1) so it should actualy be a hit for 9 damage.

Round 4 (con't)
Banion hurls his mindblade, and it flies true, striking the lion in its flank, and splashing blood down its leg.

The archers move up to get a shot around the lion. They let fly arrows at Banion and Euseibus, but both miss.

Boog & Juliana are both down.
Eusebius, then Beamer are up next.

archers (4 & 5) (one injured from earlier combat)
Juliana (-2/45)
Eusebius (4/37, mage armor)

ooc: I think Banion's position on the map is wrong. I believe he took a 5' step to the northwest a couple turns ago, as he wanted to be in position to prevent enemies from following friends through the doorway.
