S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

Manzanita (and only Manzanita)
[sblock]I've decided to make Beamer Chaotic Good. The Chaotic part I think makes a lot of sense given the nature of the Temple, and he seems to be often ending up on the side of Good even when he isn't really trying to. I have roleplayed that Beamer's powers may be coming from some underlying fiendish nature. Perhaps this journey through the temple has allowed him to defeat the dark creature lurking inside him, or perhaps it was never there at all and he is finally overcoming his own darker desires. Since the change is immediate, is there any going back in the future, or is he compulsed to his new alignment permanently? I'm fine with either one, but will want roleplay the compulsory nature at least in Beamer's thought processes.[/sblock]

Rasereit [sblock] You just bumped your survival chance well above the 50% you had before. Nice work. Go ahead & take your last post out of Sblocks, if you don't mind, so your buddies can see. Only the chess piece part needs to be sblocked & we'll get to that more later, assuming you survive.[/sblock]

Razh's axe strikes his reflection's neck, sending blood spewing generously, but the image continues to fight. Makes sense. That's what Razh himself would do. The axe strikes twice, and the spiked shield bites deeply, inflicting massive wounds. (check my mods on that please)

HP status halfway through round 2:

Beamer and Eusebius head through the dark arch. It is black for a moment, and then they emerge in a room. It is nicely lit, though the can't tell from where. It is shaped in a large circle, about 150 feet in diameter. A 10 foot wide catwalk circles a deep pit. A single rail, about 2 feet off the ground, circles the inside of the catwalk. A narrow bridge, only 5 feet wide crosses the pit. Beamer and Eusebius are at the South point of the circle, the bridges crosses the center from East to West.

The pit is of unknown depth, and a strange rumbling can be heard within. Flashes of light appear in the depths, which seems to be full of dark mist or smoke. The view is slightly distorted looking down or across the pit, as though there may be something in the air.

At each end of the bridge are figures of men. On the West is a tall man in full plate armor. On the East are two men, lightly armored, but armed. Within moments, Eusebius and Beamer recognize the figures. The armored one is Thorvin Arkenthrasher. The other two are Toler and Rafferty, or Lothar and Sangster, depening on which of their aliases are to be believed.

Beamer only: [sblock] The alignment change need not be permanent. It can be slowly changed back.[/sblock]

Eusebius' eyes narrow as he recognizes the men. He takes a deep breath through his nostrils, then lets it out again before making a fist in frustration.

"Maledicte! How I hate these games. And yet what did I expect? We are called to defeat the foes of light. It seems, however, that our host will allow us to choose the foes we face."

He drops his voice to a husky growl, so that their opponents will not hear him.

"Beamer, I am already weary, and many of my prayers are spent. No doubt our enemies are at their full strength, courtesy of the Trickster. I do not think I can face Arkenthrasher, for the armour he wears and the blade he bears makes him a formidable foe. Unfortunately the other two are, in combination, equally deadly. Is there some way we can influence the outcome, setting the odds more firmly in our favour?"

[sblock=Manz: ]The mods aren't right, no. :p Normally, axe/axe/shield is +10/+7/+9, so while raging it should be +12/+9/+11. Also, the shield damage is only 1d10+4 while raging.

Also (and I don't think this is your fault...) that linked roll has 12 rolls, not six! And go figure, every single d20 roll is above 10. :uhoh:

Even with the correct mods, though, the first three attack rolls still hit. Adjusting Good Razh's HP by 1 (for the incorrect shield damage), he has 40/84 HP.

Also, once Razh lost the initiative, he was in bad shape. The critical just evened up the stakes a little bit. (Thank the Dog, too!)[/sblock]

Rasereit cringes as his twin deals him three devastating blows with his own weapons. Biting through the pain, he launches a counter attack. His axe bites dwarf flesh twice, but when he follows with his normally surprising shield bash, his twin blocks it with prescient ease. (30 damage to Evil Razh)

Beamer replies, "I would rather face that pair. They've ...", he pauses for a moment almost as if surprised by his own thought process, "done more harm. I can pull an animal from this sack to aid us, and cast my speed spell on us and it and can cast my blinding spell on them both. After that, a debilitating weakness spell. I think we can defeat them, but what then? Cross to the other side and fight Torvin?"

Eusebius shakes his head.

"I think not. Look across the pit. See how the air ... ripples? I think there may be something there which we cannot see. At any rate, let us ..."

The priest hesitates, too, before saying with a flashing grin,

"... let us cross that bridge when we come to it!"

Razh and his evil twin stand toe to toe, dealing out horrific amounts of punishment to each other, neither asking nor giving quarter. Razh takes a couple more axe blows and is feeling woozy. He knows he needs to take out this clone now, or he's dead meat...

-----------
Torvin and the assassins notice Beamer and Eusebius. They hastily fumble to get their weapons ready. One of the assassins looks oddly white...

Beamer's smile at Eusebius's joke quickly becomes a grimace as both figures move toward them. Beamer says in a quiet, dangerous voice, "Uh, oh. Looks like we don't get to pick. Head for the assassins. If Torvin gets close from behind, I'll lay down some grease on this catwalk." While suiting his own words and heading east around the catwalk toward the assassins, his hands deftly pull ground mica from his pockets and he performs the incantation to deliver an explosion of brilliant dust on the assassins.

OOC:
Move 20 feet toward the east side of the bridge. Cast glitterdust on the two assassins (DC 16 Will save or blinded).
Spells remaining: 6/4/5/3

OOC: Circumference is pi * d. A quarter of that (the distance between them and the assassins) comes to about 120 ft. Eusebius' speed is 40 feet. Their speed is unlikely to be more than 30 feet.

IC: Assessing the time before the assassins come within range, Eusebius takes a moment to ponder the pale appearance of one of them. Could it be that one of his enemies is, in fact, undead?

OOC: Knowledge (Religion) +7 (& if necessary, Spot +8).

IC: He then sprints past Beamer, so as to put himself between his companion and their foes.

OOC: Moves 40 feet.

Ogrin passes the statues towards the wooden door, having more faith in doors that have ordinary keys and keyholes. After listening at the door, he tries the handle. If locked, he picks the lock (take 20 = 27)

Since the doors seem to disappear when you go through, Ogrin will just watch from the doorway before going through.
