S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

Beamer's heart enters his throat as the centaur is destroyed. He had thought for sure the mighty creature would defeat the bishop and maybe even another piece or two. He hesitates, unsure of his next move. Those bishops are going to be a problem. A big problem. That minotaur is coming for sure. We need to get more pieces in play. With a reassuring glance at Banion, Beamer says to the bishop next to him, "Move to this square in front of me."

OOC:
If the minotaur attacks the white bishop, Beamer will move to the upper left corner of his square and try to cast haste affecting the white bishop, Eusebius, Beamer, and the three nearest pawns. The bishop should start out firing his bow, and continue if he can take a 5' step to avoid an attack of opportunity. Beamer will try to toss an animal from his Bag of Tricks into the adjacent square with the ongoing battle. If Beamer is able to get both actions done before the battle is joined, so much the better.

If the minotaur attacks a pawn, same strategy as before. Use warhammer and shield. Ready an action to 5' step and attack on a charge. Then rage and attack.

Spells remaining (before any castings): 0th: 6, 1st: 5, 2nd: 6, 3rd: 4

Beamer sends his bishop forward. The tall elf doesn't smile, but quickly trots to the square in front of his King, and aims his bow carefully at the minotaur.

The minotaur does not take the bait. With a roar, he charges the pawn between Ogrin & Eusebius. He passes right through Ogrin's square. Ogrin just watches him pass. Only after the minotaur is gone does it occur to him to strike. There's something funny going on with that.

The second battle of viking barbarian versus raging minotaur begins! Again, the viking gets the edge at the get-go. Per Ogrin's instructions, the warrior sets his spear against the charge, and just in time, as the Minotaur is on him in an instant. Sadly, the spear is swept aside by the charging beast. It then skewers and chops the poor warrior to pieces, splattering blood on Eusebius.

The battle ends quickly, and Beamer is in check. A checked King cannot castle.

OOC: Hmm, I was actually considering the "can't castle while checked rule" but thought the "king can take whatever risk he pleases" statement negated that. Ah well.

With no choice other than to fight the minotaur - which was no choice at all - Beamer moves to an unthreatened square. He moves to the black square, up and to the left.

OOC: Hmm, probably never should have given up control of the middle by moving Raz over. Oh well live and learn or die. :)

Alone in his corner, Banion decides to experiment. He runs his mindblade back and forth on the barrier seperating his square from those next to him, examining the effect.

"Ah hate t'be a bother, but it's gettin' awful crowded over 'ere. Why are all our men still on the back row? Can we spare a viking, perhaps to battle this bishop?"

OOC: We need our power pieces on the field, not caught behind the pawns. Suggest moving the 2nd-rightmost pawn forward two, to engage the bishop.

Beamer elects to give Raz some help. Beamer looks to his right and calls out, "Sir Warrior, second from the end in the white square. Move forward two sqaures and prepare to face the bishop."

The powerful black bishop ignores the advancing viking warrior, and instead focuses on the one directly in front of the white King. It squawks, and takes flight, diving towards the viking warrior. The warrior is ready, though, and has his long spear braced. The warrior can't get his spear up at the right angle, though, and it is useless against the demonic bishop.

The bishop lands, and scrapes a deep cut along the viking's side. The viking drops his spear, jerks out his warhammer and slams it at the bishop with both hands (raging & using power attack). Unfortunately, he completely misses.

The bishop leaps full upon the warrior, clawing, biting and goring. The warrior is staggered, almost dead(0 hps). With complete disregard to his wounds and danger, he continues the fight. He strikes the bishop a solid blow, but the hammer just bounces off. The bishop then finishes him off.

Unhurt, the bishop now gloweres at Beamer, though the White King is safely out of reach, for now.
