S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

Razh leaps at the skelletal pawn. He's in the air before it even gets his weapons up. Nevertheless, somehow Razh completely misses.

The skelleton is nearly 7 feet tall. It lifts its shiny battle axe and sweeps it at the dwarf's feet. Razh leaps over the swing, and brings his warhammer around with both hands. It strikes the pawn square in the chest. Despite the skelleton's height, its weight is nowhere near that of the dwarf's. The hammer shatters the skelleton. Bones, links of chain, sheild and axe go flying, scattering over a broad swath of the board around the center. Razh has won again, and is still unwounded.

As before, the pieces of pawn slowly fade, and Razh finds himself with another small black pawn in the center of his newly-won square.

Again, the Black King retreats to the relative safety in front of his queen, instead of confronting Rasereit himself, or with another piece.

Beamer pumps a tiny fist and says, "Haha, Raz, I will not take that bet. Efficient and exciting, just as expected. Now come take care of this menacing 'bishop' in front of me. He will be tougher I am sure, but our friendly priest of our good host Jareth will take care of any wounds you receive."

OOC:
Beamer directs Raz to capture the enemy bishop on the white square in front of Beamer.

Rasereit stoops to grab the chess piece. He slips it in a pocket and winks at the black king. "Ah got t'go save yer evil twin, Gloomyguts. But Ah'll be back, don't ye fret. We'll 'ave tea. Or coffee." He taps his warhammer's head on the ground, then slides it onto his back. He considers tightening his shield, but then looks back at the dented and scratched bishop behind him. He leaves his shield alone and pulls Roar from its holster at his hip. Grasping his waraxe in two hands, Rasereit moves to the southwest corner of his square and nods to Beamer.

[sblock=Combat Notes: ]Rasereit is too far to charge, even if he gets the initiative. He'll move forward 30' at a time and ready actions to 5' step and strike, but he won't engage unless he can get within charging distance.

Charge first (charge bonus included):
Waraxe w/ 2hands, -4 PAtk: 1d20+10; 1d10+16
AC: 18

Once w/in melee range:
Waraxe w/ 2hands, -3 PAtk,
Atk1: 1d20+9; 1d10+14
Atk2: 1d20+4; 1d10+14

I include these stats for you, Manz, to speed things up, but I imagine it takes you time to figure it all out and roll the dice yourself. If you'd rather me roll my own dice, or whatever, then I'm perfectly happy to do that as well. =)[/sblock]

OOC: Rules note: You can not 5-foot step as part of a readied action unless you did not move during your turn. However, I don't think the bishops have reach so it shouldn't be a problem.

Rasereit makes his intentions known, and his commander gives the order to battle. The Bishop seems to have anticipated this; it is the first to spring into action. The Bishop leaps into the air. The wings that unfold from its back beat the air. It gains little height, but covers a lot of ground. It is on the dwarf before he can get his axe ready. The flatfooted dwarf takes a blow from its long claws (4 dmg), but shrugs it off. He returns the scratch with two mighty swings. The first smacks off its right arm, sending chunks of rocklike flesh bouncing across the marble floor. The second blow comes so quickly, the bishop is unlikely to have even felt the pain of the loss of its limb before the axe comes sweeping back to break off the top of its head.

Large chunks of bishop rock (and no evident blood), tumble past Rasereit, carried by the flying creature's momentum. A shocked silence fills the room as the last of the pieces rolls to a halt. Then the five remaining viking warriors break into tumultuous applause, banging their hammers on their sheilds and shouting at the top of their lungs. Their queen has won a great victory, and they are very proud.

Rasereit walks to take the place of the fallen bishop, next to Beamer. He hardly knows what his feet are doing; it is simply what he must do to move to that square. He knows what to look for once he gets there as well; a small black bishop lays plainly on the white marble tile.

The Black King is taken aback by the quickness of Rasereit's victory perhaps, and several minutes pass before Black's next move. (In which time, spell may be cast on Razh by those in adjacent squares). Eventually, the black's lead pawn advances, threatening Ogrin.

Rasereit grins and raises his waraxe to the applause as he walks. Reaching the bishop's square, he adds another black chess piece to the collection building up in his pocket. He also tightens his shield.

While Black decides its move, Rasereit beckons to the bishop. "Just a little patchin' up's all Ah need, nothin' major." He chats with Ogrin while they're near each other. "How abou' those black bishops, eh? Creepy blighters. 'Tis a shame that our Ser Centaur 'ad t'go so badly."

[sblock=OOC: ]Holy cow, Rasereit must've gotten some sick rolls. With the damage reduction, I thought for sure that was going to be a vicious fight.[/sblock]

"Bravo, Rasereit! You are a warrior to be reckoned with."

Eusebius leans forward and casts a series of Cure Minor Wounds spells on the valiant Queen.

OOC: Since there's a few minutes' delay before Black moves, I assume he can cast a number of spells to get Raz back to full hp. :)

"Good work, buddy!". Ogrin passes his hip flask over to Razh. Unfortunately, it only contains cheap brandy from their latest Inn stay.

Ogrin smirks at the skeleton approcahing. "Watch out. Sticks & stones can break your bones...". He hefts his Morning star and shield, ready for its approach.

[SBLOCK=Tactics]"I've no idea what black's planning, but if he attacks me, Razh can move up two steps and put their king on the move. Or, I could move up and to the left now, which makes us take more control of their left flank. Or, Razh could move up right two steps and threaten their king from that direction. Or..."[/SBLOCK]

Beamer cheers along with the rest. "Good show, Rasereit, Terror of the chess board. Friend elf, could you heal that scratch? A couple minor spells ought to do it."

Beamer considers what to do next while Black decides on a next move.

After the move is made, Beamer says to those around him,
[sblock]"I'd like to get rid of this minotaur." With a smile, Beamer continues, "He smells and I generally don't like the look of him. He's been standing close there long enough. I think I see what Black is playing at, though. If Rasereit moves, and then the skeleton attacks Ogrin, then I will be in check from the scorpion in the back row. Still, I think the best course is for Rasereit to kill the minotaur."[/sblock]

OOC: I believe the red 'E' is Eusebius, and the blue 'E' is the white elven cleric. :)

[sblock=Tactics: ]Rasereit nods at Beamer's suggestion. "Me own thoughts 'xactly. Ah don' doubt that Ogrin kin take a bag-o'-bones, if that's Black's move. And if ye've got a plan, good King, Ah've got an axe, and one black knight in me pocket already." He takes it out, to prove his words.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC: ]Reviewing the thread, I see that the first minotaur dropped its chain belt. Though I didn't say it explicitly (because I didn't notice that sentence, actually), is it alright to say that Razh picked it up when he picked up the chess piece?

And if it's the case that Rasereit now has the minotaur's chain belt... Detect magic, anybody? Or should we wait? Perhaps it's a belt of giant's strength! Or perhaps I'm being a little too hopeful. ::blush::[/sblock]
