Sales of upcoming Greyhawk Ruins will determine it's future

WotC is probably intelligent enough to judge an adventure by adventure sales standard. So, it won't have to sell as much as a campaign setting book to be deemed succesful.

IMO there's nothing lame in first doing a product that requires less initial investment, and then do a campaign setting book that's worthy of GH. Because if they don't, they might not put as much work in it as they will in a situation they know there'll be demand for it.
Hey!! Hold on there a minute please....

This is Greyhawk we're talking about here - enough already with the being reasonable and rational in your demands and expectations. OK.

I like Greyhawk, but I'm not a big fan of Greyhawk Ruins (and I'll try not to think about the insult that was Castle Greyhawk). I think I'll pass on this. I'm still hoping to see the Castle Zagyg material from Gary and the Troll Lords.

Although Greyhawk Ruins served as a starting point for us (me and Jason and Erik) in the design of Expedition, it quickly became obvious that there really wasn't that much that we could salvage from the older adventure. In any event, the adventrue we wrote is very much its own thing, with a lot of new content that built upon far more than just Greyhawk Ruins. All I can ask is that you check the adventure out if you see it on the shelves.

I'll pick it up just 'cause it's got Jacobs and Mona as authors, which should promise great Greyhawk lore (and hopefully a few Easter Eggs). If it's a good dungeon crawl, that'll be a bonus.

I know I'll be picking up a copy -- and I haven't bought a WotC book in years.

Of course, I'll also be comparing it to Castle Zagyg when it finally crawls out of its crypt. :)

Tom
who would definitely pick up a GH campaign setting book.

Yeah, like a resolution to the octoparts and Dar Kesh Anam.

Wouldn't the reports be slanted though because some people are like me who don't care about Greyhawk [sorry, was raised on FR] but who really like Dungeoncrawls?

I imagine they'll be comparing sales with Expedition to Undermountain. Since presumably the brand makes some difference, how the sales compare will give them some information about how much interest there is in the brand. FR has an installed base of folks hungry for more content. The question now is how many GH fans are going to actually drop cash on the first major product for it from WotC in years.

Please let someone pull the plug on Greyhawk. I didn't like it on 1987 and I still don't like it now.
I know this is just my opinion, and some people still love it. I would just like to see more energy spent on a new, non-Eberron setting. I hope 4th will introduce something new. Back when Forgotten Realms was coming out, there was excitement. Eberron did create some excitement, but I don't feel it ever delivered. Come up with something new and interesting.
