"Same as" PC's - OK in your campaign or not?

I want people to be able to play what they want. If a chracter dies before the player has had a chance to fully play the character, I would definatley let them bring in a new character that was almost identical. Yes, its unrealistic, but in this case, I'd rather suspend my disbelief and let the player have some fun. Especially if they've got miniatures in the mail :)

And this is one good reason why I do not kill off PCs, and especially not for some bad die rolls. All that work wasted because there was a 2 when there should have been a 3?
We game to have fun. If you want to play such a PC, and sunk a wh9ole lot of work (and some money) into its background, then you should be able to play it.

I believe a character death means a chance to run a new concept. Damn! My Elven Skitso-Wizard/Barbarian died? Well, time to whip out my Halfling Barbarian Archer with Bullet time!

In your case, I think that's cool. Just make him different, and *Go* for, seeing as he died in the second session. That bites. Generally, I wouldn't allow 'cloning'. However, in some cases, I could see Reincarnation (But that character couldn't be played immediately, more like fitting a character inbetween).

You would be a relief compared to a recent "gamer" in my group. He played two classes: monk or barbarian. He played two characters: Orion the monk and Sisk the barbarian...over and over and over! :(

now I have only done this once, but maybe make your new character his twin. That way you can keep most of the fighting style and have the same background. That or you can make his younger, or older, brother (or sister if you feel so inclined). This also gives you a goo plot hook for your cahracter to raise enough money for a reseruction, or vengance, whatever. Only works once though, remember that. You don't want to have the sixtuplets in your family come one after another after your lost brother and sisters.

Actually IMC I encourage Players to describe Factions as part of their backgrounds. A Faction is a group to which the PC has ties and from which potential backup characters and NPCs can be drawn these can range from Families, to Guilds to Temples etc. eg One PC was a Fighter raised in a Church Orphanage and Trained as a Temple Guard, when he was crippled (he lost a leg*) the player replaced him with a Cleric who had also been a Church orphan and was the Fighters best friend.

It possible that a PC might be replaced by his twin, by her apprentice or squire, or like Bilbo and Frodo by a favourite nephew
