With the new Thieves world book, Sanctuary, out now, I'm wondering how many fans of this older series we have. I haven't read the new book yet, I'm starting it tonight. :D

I haven't even heard of a new Sanctuary book.

Is it completely new, or just repackaged stories? Or, as is most likely the case nowadays, is it one new short-short story (appearing nowhere else) mixed in with a bunch of repeats?

(One of the reasons I won't buy any more David Drake's Hammer's Slammers. The latest novel is ONE teeny-tiny short story, along with several short stories that have appeared in previous novels. Ugh....)

Anyhow, an ISBN would help. It's not showing up on Amazon...

I hear they will be rerealeasing the original 12 collections of short stories.
That's multiplusgood. I have read the first three collections in Swedish (back when the major Swedish RPG company made an effort to publish a whole bunch of fantasy books in Swedish, also including Conan, Elric, the first four Pratchetts, and a bunch of others), and I kind of liked them. One story that always stuck in my mind was the way the Hellhounds solved the twin problem of the obnoxious deity-blessed Tempus with his regenerative powers and making sure that the vivisectionist Kurd didn't perform medical experiments on any more slaves...

Now I have to go home and check my bookcase because I thought I already owned a thieves world book called Sanctuary. Its been years since I last read the stories though.

Perhaps you are thinking of either:

Shadows of Sanctuary (#3)
Beyond Sanctuary

I read the thieves world books ages and ages ago. I remember enjoying them but unfortunately, I don't actually remember anything else about them. :)

Important points about the Thieves' World books:
  • Set in a corrupt city on the outskirts of a big empire.
  • One of the first "shared world" fiction series. Each book is a collection of short stories written by different authors.
