Actually, according to the interview, the tarrasque isn't in it...

I know, I was only joking, I imagine that a 1st leve Terrasque baby would be kinda funny...

What's the release date?

Does this mean that Monsters as PCs will not have character classes, but will BE clases (e.g. the Minotaur monster class)

Sort of.

This is how it works:

A Minotaur is an +8 ECL creature. If you bring a minotaur into a game, you may either play it as a full-grown minotaur which is equivalent to 8th level human characters, or you can start it at a lesser point in its development - a "1st level minotaur".

The number of levels for each monster class is equal to the ECL. An "8th level minotaur" is exactly equivalent to a standard Monster Manual minotaur (although possibly you've changed the skills and feats around a bit).

Past that, you can either advance it as a normal character (e.g. multi-classing into fighter, barbarian, etc.), or as a Monstrous Humanoid.

Copying from MM2, Monstrous Humanoid advancement is something like:
Hit Dice: d8
BAB: as fighter
Good saves: Reflex & Will
Skill Points/level: 2

(Whether you might change size further, or gain bonus feats or a different feat progression - I don't know!)

Cheers!

Thanks. That makes it nice and clear.

It's absolutely brilliant! (Thank's for the words, MerricB). Now I'm just waiting for the munckins to map out the best path to make the ultimate fighter by multi-racing! :D

What, a Minotaur 3/Drow 1/Nilbog 2? ;)

Incidentally, playing a Minotaur 2/Fighter 4 would be quite feasible - that plays into the maturity concept I mentioned earlier: the DM may decided that the character needs to age a certain number of years before further levels of minotaur could be taken, but that wouldn't prevent you from taking levels in a character class.

Cheers!

It really shows the power of the prestige class, basic species with a template laid on top of it.

I wonder how much it will be showing changes for 3.5e.
