I see it as a possible time saver for DMs but that is about it. This paying someone else to go through the drudgery of doing something that really is not at all difficult.

I think that could be said about prepublished adventures, splatbooks, epic level rules, etc. Fortunately I think there's a market for DM time-savers.

Hmm. Interesting. This book just made it to the top of my shopping list. No, wait... it's been there for a month, already. It seems they have no included any undead. Pity. Even one would have been enough, since it sets a foundation for converting the rest. Besides, I want vampires!

Looks like this book will be an invaluable resource, especially for me who will be soon playing in an evil humanoid campaign, and am plotting a Planescape campaign in the near future...

Of course, the book won't include every creature and monster from Monster Manual, and probably none from the other books. Looks like there will be enough work to do to fill another Creature Catalog...

Maybe I am missing something here, but the excerpt includes the parenthetical "(including its +2 level adjustment)". Does that mean that minotaurs have a +2 level adjustment, just like some other alternative PC races? Or did they take this into account when creating the minotaur class?

I guess my question boils down to: Is there an ECL? Is a 1st level Minotaur a 1st level character or a 3d level character?

As I read it, it seems to me that the intention is that a 1st level minotaur is a 1st level character, and an 8th level minotaur is an 8th level character.

You know what occurs to me -- there might be a market for some fan-created additions that show, for example, the progression from 8th level Minotaur to some sort of a Legendary minotaur. 20th level minotaur anyone?

I think the +2 LA means that the minotaur has an equivilent level equal to two more than it's HD. A (full-grown) minotaur Ftr1 would be ECL 9.

yeah i read that as well and was confused. I THINK that means it gets it's typical 6HD worth of Hitpoints, THEN all the other abilities cost it an additional +2 levels to be taken getting the final ECL of 8.

Yeah ... it could change from Large to Huge at some point, it could extend its scent to 60' and then at some point gain Blindsight, it could gain virtual feats like Weapon Focus (Horns). Plus increase in STR and CON. Stuff like that...
