Savage Worlds Rifts [OOC]

Blugh. I hate how ridiculously hard to hurt badguys in SWRifts are sometimes. I spent nearly half my PPE, got a great roll, and...nope. Meanwhile, I have to make a hard roll or be put down. And it's just a random damn encounter.

I think I need a combat borg or something. I dunno. The combats in this game are just really high intensity, all the time.

It's easy to hurt a bad guy in SW Rifts. It's hard to hurt a bad guy who's a Wild Card, and that I think is our trouble.

But agreed on the fights. After the vampires I was really hoping things would dial back a bit, because talk about a fight that took forever that I was (also) essentially useless in.

But they're nearly all wildcards... Even random schmoes.

Man, I'm sorry about Dawn!
She's wounded and it's bad (might even be three wounds, I may have miscounted) but good news is it's not quite as bad as it initially seemed.

Bad news is it's still pretty bad.

Deezy can improvise a Healing power...should help. If we get through the combat intact. Which...may or may not actually happen since I have exactly one more blast like that in me, and they have at least 1 more bennie.

Ugh. Don't mean to have my big bitch boots done all the way up, and I'm sorry I got upset. I'm just tired of how every combat is such a *struggle.*

I'll stop venting and Dawn will fight until she can't.

Yea my fault I do make fights too tough because I am still trying to figure out it with Rifts... I have played lots of low end stuff but Rifts kind of is throwing me on a balanced power level...

So my thoughts on this are this...

1) I will NOT use the benny to soak the Gargoyle Mage's wounds, instead he uses it to recover from Shaken to still attack, but then he rolled a 3 so the power did not activate. Dawn and Deezy don't need to roll.
2) I might need to step back from Savage Worlds Rifts as I am still trying to figure out how to balance a good fight BUT not make it feel like its a bunch of whifs until the end.
3) Leave as is but make the other two gargoyles Brutes (no Wild Cards, but they have an extra Wound or two).

Not sure... NOTE that this was not so much a random encounter as an intro to the next big bad, the Gargoyle King. The mage is one of his big minions, etc.

Arr, I apologize for being a butt about it sometimes. I know it's hard to balance things in the best of times, and SW Rifts does seem like a particularly tricky system.

Access to 'bennies' has such a ginormous effect on characters...and that combined with the system's inherent swinginess that comes from the infinitely exploding dice makes combats really hard to get a sense of what's too much.

In this case, it's exacerbated by our kind of weird party makeup. None of us are particularly heavy hitters. Alensys is pretty tanky, and Dawn and Deez can hold their own against relatively normal threats...but we're still pretty vulnerable to freaky dice explosions. I'm still struggling with Deezy's PPE costs as well. I know I'm 'supposed' to be making gadgets that have their own innate PPE...but that costs an action, which in a group of 3 people is a heavy opportunity cost.

So we're all looking for a balance here. :)

Even so, I'd like to continue! Hopefully we'll keep learning as we go!

I don't want you to step back. I dig this game! It is precisely because I'm having fun with this extremely loud queer dog girl liquid metal furred psionic swordmistress that I get frustrated when - at first glance - she gets oneshotted despite being relatively tough. And even that's faded now that she's still alive.

While Dawn at 3 wounds (just checked and you're right, she's at 3, so probably best to knock a die off that damage roll) puts her in rough shape, she's not out yet. If I had to pick anything off the list, it'd be demoting the other two to brutes, since we haven't scratched them yet so it doesn't mean much damage to the fiction of it all.

The other option, of course, is for the cavalry to show up if things get real dicey, but since this is the middle of the sticks I can see that being an unlikely proposition.

But like I said last night, I'll play her to the end of the line, regardless.
