Save RPG Inferno!

Cheiromancer

Adventurer
It's the game that is built into the current incarnation of EN World. Only community supporters can play it.

I know it is a very rudimentary game, but it has a kind of pathetic charm.

But it won't be transferred to the new server unless it gets some support! So please post to this thread as a sign of support.

Sorry, but you're right on when you describe it as having "pathetic charm." It's slow, you've very little option in combat and why it's called an "RPG" game is a mystery. Honestly, I've played better games on my cell phone. If it's a question of having this game or the messageboards be that much faster, I'll opt for the latter.

I've enjoyed the RPG Inferno a bit, and wouldn't like to see it go...

...unless it were replaced with something a bit better.

I mean, I kinda see Pierce's point about even calling it an RPG. I realize that actual ROLEplaying is pretty much out for this sort of thing, but Inferno doesn't have an adventuring system or much else for player interaction - just an arena. DND.COM (an executable command, not a website) back on my old 8086 in 1987 had more for flavor and adventuring, and LORD (Legend Of the Red Dragon) on BBSes I frequented eight or nine years ago had a LOT more interaction between people. Part of the reason I started playing Inferno was to interact with people on ENWorld, and it seems like that almost never happens, save Cheiromancer's generosity. ;)

(An open source PHP/MySQL version of LORD exists here. Not sure if that's useful to anyone.)

Some time ago, it sounded like Inferno was going to get a major upgrade, with lots and lots of new options and stuff. What about using that instead?

The guy who wrote it lost interest. That's what happened.

I've always enjoyed playing it. I still remember being killed by Rufus the Black aka Morrus back when the game was first implimented. I did get my revenge on Rufus, even if it took a few battles to beat him. :)

Please keep the game.
