I have a much more grim opinion of subclasses that don't really do anything new with the basic engine of the class such as, say, Oath of the Crown paladins and Battle Ragers.

Ain't this the truth. I wanted Battlerager to be a really unique Barbarian, but it really is just Rage and/or Reckless Attack and/or Grapple, which is just what any Barbarian can do from level 2 on. The recent UA barbarians are much more interesting. i'm hoping they make it int XGtE.

It's usually not what people mean by power creep.
Nod. It's a mechanism by which it happens, though. Add a bunch of spells & feats, even if none of them are OP by themselves, they might turn out to be in a combo.

I was simply noticing the New terminology and comparing it to the old terminology,
I always used to say 'power inflation.' Dates me as child of the 70s, I guess. ;)
