Scariest Monsters?

Something like a ghost, not a floating spirit that it just a smudge on a camera lens. A malicious creature that can possess people arround you that you cannot see....

Oh and the usually atrocities; mind flayer, chaos beast etc.

Lots of them would do it for me. I'm fairly certain that if I saw a Beholder in an alley, I'd just faint.

Beholder
Vampire - like an honest to god, blood sucking vampire, with unnatural strength. *shiver*
any undead
any demon - imagine the kind of aura of fear those things might generate. Although, I admit it's a fantasy of mine to die in the hands of a succubus. :)
any dragon - again, that aura of fear. Heck, even a good dragon would be a scary sight
Any boulder-hurling giant - imagine what kind of damage something like that could do in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

Pretty much anything that could go ethereal would give me the heeby-jeebies. I mean, a good solid door could keep a zombie out, but a ghost would just walk right through thing.

I'd say pretty much all of them. Except for the shrieker. Unless it actually manages to alert another monster.

Best chances would go to any arachnids. I can stand the small ones, but I don't really like them. Dragons, Undead and Outsiders would also be very high on the list.

The picture of the Nightwalker really inspires the "Holy $#@*, get me outta here" reaction from me. If I ever came across one in real life, I'd probably have a heart attack on the spot.

Ghosts, also, freak me out. They freak out my players, too :)

It's pretty silly, I mean, about 90% of the creatures in D&D would be my worst nightmare if I ever encountered them in a dark alley. But some others that would be especially nasty are: a werewolf, a swarm of hellwasps that have infested a body, and a rakshasa.

Oh yeah, and Eric's grandma.

lol
most people if offered a chance to go to the Forgotten realms, middle earth, oerth etc... would jump at the chance.

since we gamers Know what infests those places.... I'd run. and keep on running.

I like my Starbucks! I don't want to swap it for crazy drow and and Beholders! I dun wanna go! ;)

Hmmm - "Krell" just popped into my head. Don't have any of the books near me. Am I remembering right that is the floating brain with a BIG beak and tentacles hanging under it? (Did that even make it to 3E. or am I stuck in a previous edition?)

Then again, my mind would probably just refuse to register it correctly (ok, I'm seeing this wrong. *blinks and rubs eyes*). At least until it shrieked - I'm thinking something hawk- or eagle-like, but don't know if that's actually listed in the description or my own personal imagination. Then I think I would be outta' there before I realized it.

That's "grell", and yes, they did make it to 3e, in the Monster Manual 2. And yes, they're pretty freaky.

Demiurge out.
