I could go on, but I think the point is made that a cat is not a cat anymore then a dog is a dog.

cats do vary (i have 9!!) but not as much as dogs. i mean, the variance from a toy pomeranian to a sled dog to a mastiff to a whoippet is greater (imho) than the variance in cats.

Plus, our whole symbological gestalt of cats is different.

Their roles in literature aren't remotely comparable to heroic fantasies about dogs such as Lassie, RinTinTin, Balto and the like.

For example, if we take the tired old Poodlemancy gag and try to convert it to felines we get:

1st Level
Endure Pussy
Hold Pussy
Protection from Pussies
Summon Pussy I
Unseen Pussy
Comprehend Pussy
Pussy Strike
Charm Pussy
Magic Pussy
Tenser's Floating Pussy
Silent Pussy
Burning Pussy
Shocking Pussy
and so on.

Not the same thing at all.

You'd need an entirely different style of artwork for the supplement cover . . .

I'm sorry but I must take issue with this statement.

Siamese are much more intellegent then most other breads and very independant.

Well, no argument THERE! Though with some pastries, it'd be a tough call! ;)

Yes the average siamese is more than a match for the average Danish but in large numbers they can easily overpower the fearless feline.

Reviving a dead thread...

I've decided on using some dogs in my next session (the players are attacking an enemy outpost, and I thought some dogs with the patrols would be a nice touch). The dogs Vuron listed didn't include CRs, but here is what I would estimate, from eyeballing the stats:

Sighthound: 1/2
Scenthound: 1/3
Mastiff: 1
Toy: 1/4
Shepherd: 1/2
Retriever: 1

I decided to drop scent for the sighthound, as people were mentioning, and gave them an additional +3 to Spot. Do you think that's enough?

However... are retrievers really that much tougher than shepherd dogs? I would have expected them to be more on par with each other, like maybe a retriever with d8+4 hit points or so (more modelled on the base dog rather than riding dog)

i have seen my wolfhound (a sighthound) spot a rabbit hiding in tall grass from 50 yards, how you express that as a bonus is up to you, but i would go much better than +3 if it doesn't mes with the balance
