Sci-Fi Channel

Actually, it makes a lot sense they would add wrestling to their line up when you consider that SciFi is competing with SpikeTV (the Lifetime for men channel) for mostly male viewing audiences in the same age demographic.

It's only a couple of hours a week, so it really doesn't bother me. It's a small price to pay for Eureka, Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica as was said before.

I actually enjoy the crappy 'original' movies on Saturday nights. I keep several on the Tivo for those nights when I can't get to sleep. They are much better when you are sleep-deprived.

And I don't care what anyone says, Mansquito is a classic.

Wow. A serious little thread has developed here. Cool! And al I was trying to do was draw a humerous comparison that like-it-or-not it wasa statement about wrestling being nothing other than science fiction!

My original post might have been poorly interpreted, though. In general I love Sci-Fi. They occasionally come out with really good dragon movies. As has previously been mentioned, Eureka, SG1, SGA, BSG, and Doctor Who are the shows I actually turn on the TV for that aren't sports.

Unfortunate, though, that Billy Piper quit after Doctor Who's second "season." She quit for the same reason that Christopher Eccleston quit. They didn't want to be type-cast. My wife tells me this is a common occurance for Brittish television, and that the 13 episodes that were done for Doctor Who's second season was actually alot for a typical Brittish show. That is simply amazing to those of us used to American programming where the dream is to land something like Friends, Star Gate, or JAG that goes for well over a decade.

I may watch Doctor Who, because I absolutely love the show. But the thought of having half the main stars gone after the first season and the other half gone by the end of the second season? I dunno. We'll see how I feel in 13 episodes I suppose. Shame, cause that show rocks!

Isn't the highly popular Who Wants to be a Superhero? supposed to generate one of those "crappy original" movies? :)

Every once in a while though, the Saturday original movie isn't half bad. I always DVR it, just in case. :)

Edit: So do I want to sit through Sasquatch Mountain? It is Lance Henriksen...

Some original movies are not bad. But the ones involving:
a) human-animal hybrids
b) giant animals
c) disasters!

Those are bad.

d) aliens
e) paranormal monsters

Worst movies:
Skeleton Man #1
Shapeshifter #2
Alien Abduction #3
Mansquito #4

I actually think some very good sci-fi shows could have been saved from cancellation if they'd landed on the Sci-Fi channel.

For instance, Sci-Fi could (should?) have picked up Firefly when Fox cancelled it. Whedon would certainly have allowed it, and I believe it was even mentioned as an option. And it probably WOULD have happened had it not come up right in the middle of the NBC buyout of Universal. With nothing LEFT to do, Whedon & Co. made Serenity. Which was great, but I'd have personally liked to see Firefly continue.

Battlestar Galactica almost didn't get picked up because of the merger, despite the miniseries garnering incredibly high ratings. Fortunately, they had the opportunity to extend their options with the actors until they could close the deal.

Anybody notice that NBC has a sci-fi show on its fall lineup? The success of Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Who and Eureka is probably what prompted NBC to try out Heroes. Well, that and the popularity of Smallville.

Sci-Fi's got The Dresden Files coming up in January. So I wouldn't give up hope on it just yet.
