"Science" as a power source?

To flesh out the concepts

Tech Striker: Sniper) Start with just an accurate rifle, then add new gadgets that allow character to see through various sorts of obscuring battlefield conditions. Up the size of the rifle with level to something that does more damage> I can definitely see a high level steampunk sniper with a massive AMR in the vein of the NTW supported by anti-recoil braces strapped to the arms and torso. Clockwork heat-seeking bullets.

Tech Defender: Mechanaut) Begin with a suit of powered plate armor constantly added to with increased levels. Throw in heavier appliqué armor, stronger servos that boost strength more. At tier changes their can be a basic chassis upgrade that allows the armor to reach alarger form. Until by high level they're piloting the stereotypical steampunk mecha, roughly gargantuan in size, and can go hand-to-hand with ancient dragons and the biggest giants. Options for built in weapons that allow them to act as a limited striker or controlller.

Tech Leader: Industrialist) This one I'm kind of running short on, it's hard to think of usable in-game powers of umm "mass production?"

Tech Controller: Mad-Scientist?) This is what would be a total riot. The stereotypical "spark" ala Girl Genius. Bombs, implements of SCIENTIFIC! doom. Plus say things that rip a hole in space and let unnatural things out to rampage through enemies. Automatons, alchemical devices, mind-control machines. I can just imagine modeling one of these on Doc Brown, with devices that allow him to pop through time over short durations. Forcing enemies to miss him and hit each other, slowing down time in an area, speeding it up for allies. Bringin bits of terrain in from different places and times and interposing them on the battlefield.

Maybe you would have Artificers that use Science (or Tech or whatever they call it).
And d20 modern could use it too, if it ever goes 4E-style

Instead of an industrialist, what about an alchemist or field medic. In a mix. A Victorian doctor, carrying, using Jungian language, philosophical tracts to protect them from enemies and uses leeches, syringes, barber-shop like operations and exotic teas and herbs for healing?

Something like that, sans the offensive powers! (make sure to flip through the comic a bit to get my idea of weird philosopher-medic-leaders and add in a dose of Victorian steampunk)

Cheers, LT.

I don't think I would mind a science/alchemical power source if it was done correctly, but I have a hard time imagining that such a source could cover all the roles that the Developers have discussed.

One archetype I can think of for a science leader would be the evil scientist overlord, with his armies of minions. He'll probably have the ability to have his fortress self-destruct should he die.
