Well Scifi Channel is bringing back another old tv series , but this time it was also a comic strip. It's Flash Gordon.
News of casting and production/director. Of all people, who would thought Whitney Fordman (Lana's ex from first season) from Smallville, actor Eric Johnson has been casted as Flash himself. What got me is the Rick Rosenthal, who is also from Smallville will direct. Two people from Smallville will be part of Flash Gordon. I wondering who else will be involve in the new show. All this news is on the main page.

This could be interesting or could be unwatchable depending how they do it.

I am worried about this series. What I am worried about will how will they do the inhabitants of Mongo. Since this is Scifi and the people from Smallville making this series, does have a reputation of not liking aliens.
How well will the make the different aliens seen from the comics, the 80's movie, serials and cartoon show?

My only hope is that they don't turn it into the sappy teen soap crap Smallville has become. This is space opera, and Flash is a man of action, not an emo teenager pining away for some girl.

I agree with you, except for one thing: That's not my only hope.

I also hope they don't take themselves too seriously. While the show should be more serious than the movie from the early 80s, and shouldn't descend to the same levels of camp, it needs to be fun, relatively light fare, with its share of goofiness. Trying to make it a "dark, serious sci-fi"--like, say, BSG--would be a horrific mistake.

Oh, good point there. Reimagining this as dark scifi would definitely be a mistake I think. Battlestar is good and all, but we don't need another show like it. Plus the fact that it would be a betrayal of the core concept of what made Flash Gordon so good in the first place.

If anything, they should copy the tone and atmosphere of the original Star Wars. Which in retrospect, was influenced heavily by Flash Gordon.

I'd rather they copy the crew atmosphere, dynamics, and "camaraderie" of Firefly.

I have hopes for Flash Gordon. I've always liked the property, from some reason, in all its wierd incarnations. That said, I hope the writers remember it's supposed to be two fisted, pulpy action! If they turn it dark and serious, or turn it into a soap opera romance? Bleah.

Oh, I think that's a pretty good choice from what I remember of him. He's the guy that should have been playing Pete Ross.
