Scoop on D20 Future

Err. Yep. Exactly what I meant... fingers before the brain... oh well. Thanks for link too, makes my (ripped-off) joke actually mean something!

It's my understanding that this won't feature sample campaign settings.

But if it did...

1. Mecha Crusade --- big giant Japanese robots

2. Genetech --- near-future ribofunk [because I like saying "ribofunk"]

3. Star*Drive --- a reasonable compromise between hard science and space opera...gritty enough to run "Aliens" or "Firefly"-type scenarios.

4. I dunno...apparently lots of people still like Star Frontiers, but I don't really have a feel for what it's like. I'd enjoy a sort of retrofuture setting of the Buck Rogers / Flash Gordon / Lensmen variety.

Damn...y'know, someday I'm going to figure out how to earn a living as a professional dungeonmaster...

Ribofunk?

*Googles it*

Ahhhh. Hey, I was Ribofunk before I knew what it was man.

Let's slap on a bioapp, surf the neotic currents and find us an old copy of White Wolf's Trinity RPG.

You mean the fourth campaign model that got cut out of the d20 Modern Core Rulebook due to lack of space, which is then rewritten for the Poly magazine?

Then again, if I know most of those devoted Alternity fans, they have already turrned up their noses with regards to the new direction for Alternity elements.

Not me. I loved Alternity but it's been cancelled for a while and I've moved on. I'd love to see some Star*Drive material in d20Future. Although it's not my top priority, I've long tossed around the idea of another Star*Drive campaign and if I ran one, I'd be fairly likely to use d20. As much as I think Alternity was a good fit (and would still consider using it) the advantage of not having to train my players on a new system is considerable.

I dunno. The idea of campaign models is to keep it brief. IMHO, the Genetech mini-game setting in Polyhedron is a given a more expanded treatment than the other three campaign models in the Core Rulebook. To have that and more pages to the d20 Future, then you might as well turn it into several chapters of a default setting, like Rokugan in Oriental Adventures.

Just pondering the what-ifs.

But you make a good point. Full-fledged campaign models would eat up pages.

Yeah, perfect example ... The concept that its more important to introduce game settings that use FX powers as compared to providing more FX powers in the first place? (especally Psi)

As an Alternity fan, I would love to see support for D20 Modern/Future. I don't know what this nose-sticking-up thing is, because more than anything else I'd love to get a Star*Drive or Dark*Matter campaign going in D20M/F, I just don't have the people around me to do that. :(
