SCOOP! Wizards to release 3E Draconomicon

Frex, Skips ruling about burst weapons which Monte said was clearly not his intention, and the creation of a class in the Minds Eye that has a class ability that all psions can do anyways...

Digression: Hey Psion, I don't suppose you have a link to Monte's comments, would you? What was Skip's ruling that Monte disagreed with?

Thanks!

You stated that, but that's the only place I've heard that before. I also fail to see how it's meaningful as WAR is a freelance illustrator, and wasn't ever part of the WotC "stable" of artists anyway.
Whether WAR was considered in-house or not is irrelevant, though you are indeed correct on his relationship with WOTC; the point was simply that WOTC used to pay to put to put the likes of WAR, Lockwood, Brom, Sweet, and Wood in each of their top tier products, and now they don't. Hence the deterioration to a more cost effective look that obviously doesn't bother everyone.

And for the record, it doesn't even "bother" me, I just won't spend money if the sum of a product's parts don't equal a satisfying whole. Its possible for a product to meet such a standard with less than impressive art, but very, very rare.

There are already rules for encountering dragons, but not for mass combat. There's the difference. More rules for encountering dragons is just icing on an already baked cake - in the case of mass combat, there is currently no cake.

FWIW, there are maybe 3 or 4 mass combat products slated to come out this year, including one by WotC.

Also FWIW, there really haven't been that many dragon-centric products for 3e. AEG's Dragons, Mongoose's Slayers Guide to Dragons... and that's all I can name off the top of my head. I'd actually say there's a "dragon gap" (Dragon Pass?) to be filled, even if simply for completeness' sake. If WotC wants to put out *one freaking book* all about dragons, that's fine with me.

And I would think that the average DM would have a lot more use for "fluff" info on dragons than for a mass combat system. I'm actually a bit puzzled by the -apparent- demand; I'd think people who wanted mass combat would already be playing Warhammer. :)

As usual, people are getting their collective panties in a bind before we even have any concrete info about the product. I'll wait and see.

Ah, so you're over by the airbase then? That's pretty far from me, actually, I'm in Canton Township.
You know it, and on quiet nights you can listen to equipment coming in and out. :)

Canton huh? My fiance is from Augusta Township, and one of my good friends is part of the Canton School District IT team. Small world. :)

FFG's Draconic Lore is the only other book on the subject that I can think of. For such an iconic topic, I agree that there really aren't all that many resources available.

The Underworld in Ann Arbor (which I assume is the store you're referring to) does have an excellent selection of 3e material. Pretty much everything that comes out for 3e is available, or on order. Rare exceptions include things like Heroes of High Favor: Elves, which seems to sell out so fast that they can't keep it in stock. ;)

I consider myself very lucky to have this kind of resource available, and it makes keeping up on 3e (and examining a broad cross section of products) much easier.

Oh yeah that's the place. I noticed the Heroes of High Favor sells out within a day or three of its arrival there. A real pain when you are only out there on weekends. :)

It's pretty old, but it was on Monte's message boards, you might be able to dig it up there.

The ruling referred to is that burst weapons do not do the burst damage in addition to the normal elemental damage on a critical hit, but instead of it. Monte said it was his intention that they do. If you do the math, the value of such weapons is pretty dubious if you buy Skip's interperetation.
