Scribing Scrolls

Can I put spell completion spells as runes on a longsword? As a sword-wielding melee mage, it makes more flavor than a belt of parchment scrolls. Given the inevitable disarmguments, It is easier to disarm 1 sword than 12 scrolls, so it is to flavor I do this.

I personally don't see anything wrong with scribing spells into a sword, as long as it's used just like a scroll (sounds like a pretty cool idea for a prestige class).

However, this is meandering into house rules territory, so your DM will have the final call.

"Spell completion" is read as "Scroll". I DM and play in my campaign, so i just want to justify it to myself. And yes, there is a Sword Mage PrC, but it is sooooo munchkin I find that I don't wanna post it.

well - you could do so, if the blade had a large enough surface to write such a rune on it.

Not all swords would have such a surface.

You probably need a feat to do this:

Create Runesword

Prereq: Scribe Scroll, caster level 1+
Benefit: You have mastered an ancient technique of storing that uses the surface of a swordblade or other metallic surface. You may use the surface of a sword you wield to engrave special runes that act just as a scroll. You may only place one such rune on any given item. While a scroll is destroyed in the reading, only the magic leaves a runesword - the sword or other item itself is left intact.

This would be an EXTREMELY nasty tactic if you were to use these runes to "impersonate" command words on magic items... not NEARLY as bad as a cursed MAGIC item mind you - but still unkind :)

Sudgestion

Monte cook, in The Book of Elditch Might, uses a feat for similar effect. Basically the cost is 30(instead of 25)X C.Level X S.Level, and you have to be 5th level caster to take it. It's Etch Item or something similar.
