Season premiere of "The Shield"

Please don't tell me that I'm the only one on the boards who loves this show!

As for the season premiere, wow! Crazy stuff going on with Vic and Asaveda--given their history, what's happening between them now is unbelievable. And how hilarious was the civilian audit lady when she chewed up Dutch? One word for that lady, and it'd probably offend Eric Noah's dear grandma.

I also loved how Vic and crew got back into Mexico. Vic definitely has big brass ones to try what he did.

For those of you who are saying, "What on earth is The Shield"? It's probably the grittiest show on tv (and yes, I watch the Sopranos too). Vic Mackey is a dirty cop and his life gets more and more interesting with every episode. WARNING: this show is not for the easily offended, those who dislike strong language, or watch everything on tv with their children. If you're curious it's only on cable, on the FX network. Michael Chikliss, who plays Vic, won an emmy for the role (over strongly favored West Wing actor Martin Sheen no less).

Edit: Here are all the nominees that Chikliss beat for best lead actor in a dramatic role...

Six Feet Under • HBO
Michael C. Hall as David Fisher

Six Feet Under • HBO
Peter Krause as Nate Fisher

24 • FOX
Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer

The West Wing • NBC
Martin Sheen as Josiah Bartlet

Yes, but Michael Chiklis was "The Commish." He's a staple of Lifetime now - the saccharine network whose other stuff include the abhorrent Designing Women and The Golden Girls, and Monday Night Abused Wife Theater.

Hey I loved the first season..but there's very little chance I'll see new epsidoses since I'm running my online Hollowfaust game from 8-10. (That 10 does get extended a bit.)

Watch the show, and you will see a totally different side of Him. First season just came out on DVD.

I caught the Season Premire and loved it. I enjoyed the entire first season too though.

It's a nice break from Law and Order or the CSI family.

I like how dark and gritty it is. It reminds me of the Black Company novels by Glenn Cook. It's a reminder of how sometimes the police need more power to solve crimes or take criminals off the streets -- but how easy it is for it to go too far, by the same token.

I can't wait to see where the new season leads and how our two main rivals are going to play at being allies 'watching each others' backs'

I definitely recommend catching it if you don't mind intelligent and mature TV programming.

I will likely do what I did with 24 - rent the first disc and the buy the set if I think it's any good.

I used to watch "The Commish" as well. Chikliss is still overweight, but in a "hard-ass, you don't want to fight this guy" sort of way, whereas before he was a big, jolly pudgy guy. He looks different (to me anyways, could be the completely shaved head) and Anthony Scali and Vic Mackey couldn't be more different as cops.

Chikliss is able to look evil and menacing at any time these days. In the final scene from the most recent episode when he was in his kitchen, eating some reheated crap and drinking a beer after talking to Acevedo, he looked more frighteningly scary than most T.V. villains look when they are decapitating kittens.
