Thanks, this is actually something I do keep in mind very much so. With my ability to turn any normal hit into a Crit, albeit limited, has made me very conscious of when to use my divine smites.
What's giving you this ability?

Question though, I’m unclear on if you can use multiple spell slots for divine smite on a single attack? ie; using a lvl 1 and 2 or even 2, 2, & 2 on the same attack damage roll?
Divine Smite can be used once per hit. The Smite Spells are concentration so you can only have 1 up at a time. You can use Divine Smite and a Smite Spell on the same attack.

P.S. Pretty stoked actually about last week. Acquired a +1 Flame tongue long sword from a foe. I know it doesn’t work with my Polearm Master but on that one attack that I plan on using my crit for with Divine Smite, Flame tongue and Hunters Mark up that will be some crazy damage to the BBGG 😉.
If you have a longsword that gives +1 hit and +2d6 damage I'd suggest it will probably be better for you to swap to that weapon as your primary melee weapon for now. When you finally get improved divine smite the spear is probably better again.

Res Con will guarantee your concentration saves against most hits. If you want to regularly utilize concentration spells on the frontline, then that's a must IMO. Also, it provides a defensive benefit toward Con saves - which are fairly common and can have some very annoying effects.

Warcaster helps on saves. It provides an OA benefit mainly to characters with Booming Blade (something you won't have staying straight paladin). But it's true benefit is if you have off turn spells like shield you could cast while still having your weapon drawn. Unless you multiclass you won't have those and so while it's a good feat, it's not as good as Res Con for you.

I think that's a wise plan.
Very good points. Thank you

Cult of Zariel power- Ferocious Surge (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). When this creature hits with an attack that isn't a critical hit, it can turn the hit into a critical hit. - Pg 21 of MToF.

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

I was thinking the same.

Great campaign. You’re gonna love it. Good right up to level 20. Which is rare.

The biggest question should be what are the rest of the party playing?

I’m excited for it so far.

We have a Rouge Swashbuckler, Warlock of the Tome, Druid/Barbarian Bear warrior and a bunch of different cohort/minion types to help us protect things for the moment. And my character of course. We have a lot of things covered, not all of course.

Very balanced party. That does free you up to pursue whatever avenue you like.

I would stick with Paladin, and be the envoy of hell. If you want to mix it up a bit, take a couple of levels of cleric to boost your spell casting and branch out.

Or I’ve found the metamagic adept feat quite good fun for fighter types with spells. Being able to drop your best spell as a bonus action with quicken spell while fighting is a fun option.

Yeah, party gels pretty well together. We just completed the half way mark on the ritual and we leveled up. I took the advice and now have Resilience: CON. I am going to stick with Paladin all the way through. I’m pretty positive that I will be taking Sentinel 12 and CHA 16. I don’t know about 19. I might drop the shield and take GWM in place of Sentinel. Or take all 3 and push CHA to lvl 19...😎 ugh, so many decisions when you know the campaign is going to run to 20.

Level Up!
