Sell me on creating new d20 fantasy PDFs . . .

So "sell me" (convince me) on writing new releases . . . even though I cannot make enough money selling them to cover my writing time.

It's like being a painter, sometimes money is not the first reason to do something ;)

I have been worried that you might be thinking along these lines Mr. Reed, ever since you announced the end of the Dozen and 100 lines. In many ways you have helped define the PDF market.

I first noticed the rapid decline in d20 fantasy about a year ago and I've been trying to decide what to do for about 8 months now. The last two 101 were an attempt to check on if the market had shifted from smaller PDFs to larger offerings but when those didn't do well I was pretty sure the problem was specifically that just about everyone had all the d20 fantasy they would ever need.

I'm gonna stick with what works for now, since it is working, but if the game industry continues in the same direction it has been going I suspect we'll see a lot of the people working in the industry leave over the next year or two.

It's hard to act on that maxim if you have to live on it ;).

Dunno, I know a good number of artists in the CG industry that do alot of work aside from their day-to-day job. Visiting some of the CG community sites like cgtalk.com is a good example of people creating things just because they love what they do.

Well, now there's an idea! A "Baker's Dozen" of all the "A Dozen..." for a slightly discounted price (very little work to put together, increased income for you, and a new way to re-introduce old products to folks who don't have them all, AND it makes things easier to find, too)! The bad news is, it will be large, take a long time to download, and probably be pricey... but it would clear out the old catalog!

Feasible?

HA! Okay, I see that you've already HAD all those ideas! :p Oh well, I added the two 101 & Dozens collections to my Wish List, anyway!

For whatever it's worth, I hope you stick with it! ;) Besy wishes!

I don't know. I just looked at some of the stuff. It's just not something I would buy. I'm one of the ones who would like to see a cool new setting. In settings at least you get it all. Some classes, and prestige classes. Some spells, maybe a new cool spell system. Some background info which I can use in my setting if I don't go with the one presented. Many other aspects I like in settings.

I just find a book of feats to be uninspiring for the most part. Sorry Phil.
