[Semi-OT] Names, names, names

I have a copy of Llewellyn's "Magical Names" book and I use it all the time. Not only does it have different cultural & Pagan names, it has several lists of name from several novels and other literature.

Andrew = means strong (Greek), one of the apostles (natch)
Dylan = the name of a Welsh sea god, supposed to be the father of the Lady of the Lake (although I was named for Bob )
Gable = Gabel is German for fork. Although my German teacher said that Gabel/Gable/Goble is more often a surname in Netherlands.

So you're the strong fork of a welsh sea-god...[shrug] could be worse.[/shrug]

Mine is hebrew and means "gift of the Lord". Sheesh I was only just born and mum and dad were callin' me god's gift.

No sure fire sites for names, but I've been able to make names a couple of ways.

While at work I look at equipment names or the manufacturer and try to write it out backwards or at least part of it backwards. I've also read the lables of mundane products and use parts of words of the ingredients.

Sometimes I also take a name of a place or character of books and change it by a couple of vowels or add a constanant or two. Seems to work.

Meaning of my name I believe is "beloved" or "God's gracious gift." I've seen it both ways for John.
