I wouldn't go at all, under any circumstances.

I come 3000+ miles to see friends, game hang out and goof around.

I don't come so Star Trek fans can live out their "Bullies With Honour" fantasies on me.

They'd get a polite no, then a less polite one (Hint: it's a gesture ;) )

Yup, I am with Mr. Teflon on this one. Not a big Trek fan so the whole thing is a bit annoying anyway because I think they are WAY to loud.

wow.....

I really have to ask whatever happened to gamers having a sense of humor and not being judgemental after seeing this thread. I came across this thread because I was googling looking for photos or links on the internet relating to the jail and was shocked to see this.

Clearly many of you have never talked to anyone at the jail considering the assumed attitudes you have placed on those of us that gave our time to charity working this event. There are hardfast rules, we never take anyone that is not willing, no one is forced to serve all of their time, and no one will EVER be removed from a game they are participating... if we are aware that they are doing something we won't even go to try and arrest them. If you think that working 8 hours a day every day at a con is what we'd rather be doing than gaming then you are sadly mistaken... we do this for the kids (the charity was the Make a Wish Foundation). We're all gamers just like you.

Maybe you misssed something... but it's your friends that do the arresting. So if you would have been arrested it was because your "friends" chose to do it, lol. Do you think that we just go around randomly looking for people to arrest? Many people do get enjoyment out of it, it's a chance to pick on their friends in good fun and give money to a wonderful cause. Perhaps if you didn't want to be arrested and your friends did this to you it's the friends you should be making the rude gestures to and not the ones who arrested you? All arrests are initiated by the people that know you.

There are always going to be people that do not want to participate, we run into it all the time. I had 2 people refuse to go this year, they did not go to the jail. If they say no, we respect that. Also remember that before we arrest anyone for a long amount of time we also ask them if they have the time. Last year I actually made arrangments with Mynex (from Code Monkey Publishing) to call me on my cell phone when he was ready for us to get him (on his 3rd arrest). We arrested the Marketing Director of Whitewolf this year... if he had said he was too busy we would never have taken him as well (and no he didn't serve more than a few minutes of his 126 minute sentance).

I wish I could tell you how much we raised but unfortunately I found myself working at the Dragon Sculpture doing photoshop work all day and didn't even get to say goodbye to my group at the end of the con... I was the last one to leave. 100% of the money goes to the charity, Gencon donates the hotel rooms and badges to us so that we can run the event.

Huh!

Nope, actually you are correct I wasn't aware of a lot of what you said there, and yes, it does change my opinion of your organization almost entirely.

I still wouldn't do any time there, but I was under the impression that your friends just dispatched Klingons to come get you and toss you in jail for X number of dollars.

I also didn't know it was for charity.

Anyway, sorry if my misinformation (or rather, total lack of information) negatively colored your works.

I sitll think you guys are too loud ;) (but you pale in comparison to those shrieking "scavenger Hunt" guys)
