Sensitive of Yara

the Jester

Legend
This prestige class was written to kind of 'flavor' a cleric or monk. I want to keep it to a short (3 levels) prc. I'm not sure if it's currently of sufficient interest to a cleric; I guess it might very well appeal to paladins, though. Anyhow, feedback or thoughts?

Sensitive of Yara

St. Yara was Dexter’s first cleric. She preached a sensitive, kind version of Galadorianism that sought truth through deep introspection and thorough internal awareness rather than strictly through dogma and the fallible commands of hierarchical leaders. Truth revealed by Galador through such internal methods can then be expressed to others to help guide them. The example she set is one that brings hope for change to those that see the Church of the Light as too tied-up in tradition and stagnant.

A sensitive of Yara is one who has looked within and seen a gentle devotion to good and an awareness of the need to ever strive for higher goals. The Order of St. Yara follows a hard path, denying their own desires in order to achieve a higher state that will allow them to see the truth. Though they prefer to stand apart from the Church leadership, they will bow to the dictates of theological policy if such is demanded, and they follow a strict code.

CLASS FEATURES

Weapon and Armor Proficiency:
A sensitive of Yara gains no new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Sensitive (Ex): A sensitive of Yara becomes much more aware of her environment and the subtleties around her. She gains a +3 competence bonus on Listen, Sense Motive, and Spot checks.

Discern Lies (Su): As a free action, a sensitive of Yara may activate this ability 1/day, with a caster level equal to her class level plus her wisdom bonus. The save DC is 14 + wis bonus.

True Sight (Su): 1/day a sensitive of Yara may invoke true sight (as the divine version of the spell). This lasts as long as the sensitive spends at least a move-equivalent action every round maintaining it, to a maximum of 1 minute/point of wisdom bonus the sensitive has.

The Code of Conduct for a Sensitive of Yara is as follows:

-Never speak a lie.
-Always examine a situation for truth; there are always many sides to every situation.
-Seek understanding before violence.
-Honor all religions, but worship only the Light.
-Allow no crime to go unpunished.
-There are others wiser than you. Respect them. There are others that know more than you do about a situation. Respect them. But always remember that everyone has their own agenda.

I suggest giving +1 level of spellcasting in a divine spellcasting class at 2nd-level in the Sensitive of Yara, as it will be more attractive to Clerics and will help the prestige class' slightly low power. Add the caveat that if the Sensitive of Yara did not already have spellcasting ability with a divine spellcasting class, then at 2nd-level in the prestige class they gain the capacity to cast divine spells as per a 1st-level Cleric, including the spontaneous casting of Cure spells and including two domains, but not acquiring the domain powers, only access to the domain spells for their domain spell slot. If the Sensitive of Yara later takes levels in the Cleric class, then this benefit transitions simply to +1 level of spellcasting ability with the Cleric class, but the character's two Cleric domains must be the same ones they had chosen previously for their domain spells with this ability.

Love your stuff Jester! The storyhours are great, keep it up!

I actually don't want to give it spellcasting levels. One of the reasons for this is that it's not just for casters (and I don't like giving a non-caster levels in a class he doesn't have), it's more aimed at a monk. This is more of a flavor class to show the character's devotion to a particular saint.

I do agree that it's a lil weak; what do you think about adding Detect Thoughts as a spell-like ability at 1st level? What else can I do to make it attractive to a cleric as well as monks and paladins?

A current problem I note is that all their abilities are ones clerics can do better with spells, once they have a high enough caster level. I suppose I could, at 3rd level, increase the Sensitive bonus to +6... hmmm.

Any other ideas?
