September - What are you Reading?

I'm in the middle of The Barsoom Project by Niven and Barnes. Not as good as Dream Park but still better than most. I'll be going through my Heinlein next - I have Methusela's Children lined up next and then about a dozen other titles by him.

Now to 'A Game of Thrones.'

You know, I didn't used to read that much. Guess once the cable's gone, and the internet as well (i'm at the library right now), I have a lot of free time...

Valiant Trade paper backs mainly Harbinger. I'm looking to use Peter Stanchek as a character in a DnD project I'm hoping to do here....
Oooh. I LOVE the Valiant comics. I'm still hopefull that they can get through the legal trouble and start bringing back some of the great titles from back then.

As for myself, I'm currently reading the Necroscope E-branch trilogy by Brian Lumley. Good psi vs. vampires horror stuff. In the middle of book two out of three. After that series I am going to try out The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum. If I like it, maybe I'll go for the rest of the series as well. The movies were good enough, so maybe the books will be better.

I just purchased two books. The first one is Nova Swing by the much maligned (on this site, anyway) M. John Harrison. It's a continuation of Light, a novel that won last years Triptree Award, and a novel that I still have a hard time forming an opinion of, even though I read it over a year ago. Harrison is one of those authors that I either love (The Course of The Heart) or am very confused by (8/10's of Viriconium). We'll see if this one tips the scale in any way.

The second book I bought is that Philip K. Dick collection by the Library Of America. It's subtitled Four Novels Of The 1960's. I can't wait to dig in into it. I've never read PKD before, mostly because I wasn't sure where to start. This narrowed it down by quite a bit.

He's only maligned by people who don't know books. And thanks for letting me know there's a sequel/semi-sequel to Light.

Think of Viriconium as a book situated halfway between Michael Moorcock and Borges. That helped me.

Does it contain Valis and Ubik? Read them!

I just got two Paizo "Planet Stories" books in the mail today -- Black God's Kiss and City of the Beast. Those go to the top of my pile!

Making Money the new Pratchett, Feast for Crows by George RR Martin and Diary of a Rock'n'Roll Star by Ian Hunter

Cheers

Daz

I just finished Making Money. The book is great although the ending felt a little, well, less resolved than I would normally expect from Pratchett. I feel like certain elements didn't really mesh perfectly well together either. Mind you, I still enjoyed it immensely and the characters of Moist Von Lipwig and Adora Belle Dearheart are growing on me.

I'll be reading a compilation of the works of Emily Dickinson this week although I get the feeling that it won't last me the entire week. I may continue to re-read The Light Fantastic fi I need to bring something with me for the train and for lunch breaks.

Other than that it's just school texts. We just finished reading Richard III and we've moved on to Richard II. I understand that A Midsummer Nights Dream is next.
